From my understanding, it is a software and there is nothing to do with us.
In what way do we have to support? What kind of resource is Roon going to give us?
As hardware vendor, we can not go around and modify our hardware for every new software that comes out that claims to be the best thing ....
I just don't see what we have to do with Roon.  If they claim that hardware vendors have to license something from them, this company is doomed to failed. And that makes it even more hesitant for us to support a new vendor.

I read the website again.
NuPrime Omnia is both a hardware and software platform.  The FREE software app can do many if not most of the things that Roon talked about.
Sure, if you are a big fan of Roon, NuPrime is compatible with Roon already since it is DLNA based.
But we have a very different philosophy than Roon that we believe in a distributed architecture.  Each Omnia is a server (or core as Roon calls it), a streamer and a personal player all in one. In a distributed world (how many of you have husband and wife or kids sharing the same music collections and play list library? I bet very few), you could have one Omnia as the center of the universe that brings all the music into one large collection, or you could have multiple Omnia each with its own collections but synced to a centralised Omnia.

Here is the link to their partners page that has some more info  https://roonlabs.com/partners.html

From what i understand there are two different types of partnerships with Roon for hardware manufactures depending on the type of hardware.

For items like the DAC-10, DAC-9, IDA-8 etc you would send them a sample of the item for them to evaluate and in turn test on your end the interaction with Roon.  This allows Roon to automatically adjust the audio settings (max resolution settings or volume control via usb for items that use it like the Audioquest Dragonfly for example) to be sent to the DAC when it detects it on the other end of the USB connection. it also adds a couple of other small but neat things like custom icon in the player and link to the online manual.  I don't know for sure but i don't see how there would be any costs related to this.  I don't think there is any hardware modifications involved but rather just testing to make sure what they are doing gets the best performance out of it.  Hell, I would be happy to volunteer to send them my DAC10 as a test unit, if needed.

The second type of partnership is RoonReady which is geared towards products that have network streaming capability which can then act as endpoints, which goes beyond the above.  Essentially they would provide the RAAT software (Roon's streaming Technology)  as an option for the streamer to use in addition to upnp or their own software.  this allows the streamer to be seen as an endpoint by Roon which provides ability to do multiroom, synced streaming, etc and control the streaming from the Roon App.   I do know there are Roon Ready devices currently available that are pretty cheap so I don't think there are any significant licensing costs to this, but that is just my guess.  As far as support goes i can't answer that.

i was thinking about their transmission protocol RAAT which seems promising

perhaps the implementation of RAAT is possible with the NuPrime WR-100

what makes roon amazing is the magic they do with the metadatas .... try it for a few days and you will see ... it's like being in a record shop again

Every vendor wants their product to be the center :).  I think we can send a DAC-9 (really doesn't matter if it is DAC-9 or DAC-10 as I suspect, see my comment below). Our top priority is to release Omnia by May at the High End show in Munich and production shipping in the summer. This will follow up with more Omnia related accessories such as docking station, powerful headphone amp and charger, etc.

I suspect that it is more of a marketing gimmick that there is a need to customise Roon for specific hardware. From what I can understand, their software detect the "capability" of our DAC, so that when a hi-res file is being played on their server that is connected to our DAC, the server will play the highest resolution. There couldn't be any other scientific possibility that they can do to customized for other DACs. If they do, they will be changing the sonic characteristic of the DAC. And it is highly unlikely that they can and should do that.
But all our DACs from $99 to $1795 all have 32-bit/384kHz decoding and DSD256   :thumb:
I will contact them to find out.

I'm using Roon to send audio to my DAC-10H with no issues with it sending DSD/HiRez PCM or Redbook.   Love the extra metadata/lyrics/etc and seamlessness.

Thank you Jason for looking into it.  Look forward to hearing any progress once you get time to do so.

You are 100% spot on on the first point, which as a consumer can it really difficult sometimes.  Any chance of having the Omnia at Newport in June?

I agree and i think they would as well in regards to the things like DACs.  Its mainly just adding small touches to Roon so that when a recognized DAC is plugged in things like settings and the icon are changed to match

Im using RAAT through a different device now in my system and it works wonderfully as Brad said.  No idea if the WR-100 could have the firmware updated to run it but even if not, id be happy to pay double the price for a version that includes RAAT and a USB output as an option.

Agreed.

this kind of software brings back what i really miss with that dematerialized music shit ...  browsing, discovering, experiencing ...
sitting down ... listening to an album ... reading the cover and the book while listening to it ... reading the lyrics ...
reading the name of the engineer/guitarist/vocalist/composer ( you name it)  that worked on this little gem and seeking for other albums he worked on.

it brings back that pleasure in a much powerful way.

worth a good look.

Not sure this fits on the NuPRIME Circle.  No mention of NuPRIME/Roon combo at the link.

it gives a clue on what are the expectations of the public ... roon is more and more used and widespread among audiophiles for many good reasons ...

http://elac.com/product/elac-discovery-music-server/
pretty similar to WR-100 ... with roon support.

lets wait for @rustydoglim to try roon for a few weeks ... and then perhaps roon support will come :D

I think Roon contacted me before. I hardly have time to sleep these days. It has been a crazy ride for NuPrime and other brands in the past 18 months. As another customer has been using Roon mentioned on this topic that Roon works with NuPrime's DAC. There is no reason that there is any need for proprietary protocol because there is no DSP in our DAC to do EQ (we don't do that), so a DAC is a DAC, it just decode as good as it can be. It is mainly for marketing that Roon needs to "recognise" the DAC, which it can already from the USB audio device driver!

Yes, Nuprime works with Roon. As long as it is behind another network player device such as the Auralic Aries streaming bridge. It would be nice, if Roon would be supported directly, without a separate bridge. How about Roon support for the HD-AVP? It already has a player integrated?

There's no reason for a DAC to support Roon. A network player, like the upcoming Nuprime Device, is a different story. It could be made "Roon Ready", like the aforementioned Sonic Orbiter.

Omnia is not just a network player.  It is a server too.  If you are happy with Omnia software, then there is no need for Roon.
But if you like Roon, then just treat Omnia as a DLNA server and stream from it.

What's the big deal?
Why all the fuss over Roon? For me, the big deal and fuss is over the fact that I find Roon to be head, shoulders, and body above every other control app and music library manager I've used. And I've used a bunch of them including, but not limited to, iTunes, JRiver, Bubble UPnP, Linn Kinksi, Linn Kazoo, Aurender, Auralic, iPeng, PlugPlayer and BluOS. This clear superiority relates directly to the experience of interacting with digital music, turning a once cumbersome and at times frustrating experience (I don't care for DLNA or proxy files) into a seamless musical journey of discovery and enjoyment.

Of course Roon is not for everyone. Nothing is. You may be married to devices that don't run Roon, and you don't see any reason to change. And I completely understand that position and wouldn't suggest you do. But for those people looking for a multi-room, multi hardware manufacturer solution using one interface to control playback of your music collection and Tidal to multiple systems, being RoonReady sure makes a heck of a lot of sense.
