DAC + Active speaker recommendation

I started several topics so that we can leverage the knowledge of so many esteem audiophiles from this forum. Most people are using NuPrime electronics with passive speakers, but I am sure some people do use active speakers.

In a smaller, desktop, less expensive 2-way vain, with F3 between 42 and 56 Hz and prices from $400 - $2,100 I'd look at:

Adam A7X, Dynaudio Excite 14A, Focal CMS 40, Genelec M040, Gibson Les Paul 4 Reference, Neuman KH120, and PSI 14M in conventional layout.

For coaxial designs, I'd consider Audio Pro Solutions, Equator D5, and PreSonus Scepter S6.

Note that most of these are primarily designed for studio use and as such are voiced for near-field use to produce a highly accurate, analytical, and dry sound to reveal all the warts, not to entertain audiophile quirks.  Can you handle the truth?

While most active monitors are designed specifically for studio use (like the Adam A7X, all Neuman speakers, PSI 14M, Audio Pro Solutions, Equator D5, and PreSonus Scepter S6), there are consumer and prosumer speakers that try to bridge the gap (like Adam, Dynaudio, Focal, Genelec, and Gibson) that work well as in-room monitors and can be less fatiguing.

Audiostream.com (a spin off of Stereophile) may be the most complete source of audiophile reviews for desktop active monitors.

I always recommend the Neumann KH 120 A

I had some off-line conversations on this topic with JLM (thank you, sir) and eventually settled on the Neumann KH120's.  I have been extraordinarily happy with the choice, even more so than I expected.  I second this recommendation -- you can't go wrong here with any of the KH line.
