Can a BP-25DA be used like a standalone DAC by routing the "TO TAPE" outputs to a source input  of an SP-1.7 for example ?

If so, is this the general practice for most pre-amps/receivers ? I'm wondering because it would allow me to use an old receiver as a tuner in another system. I could try it but I'm afraid of damaging my gear.

Hi,

Yes if you use the Tape outs you would get the decoded signal from the DAC's.
