I have a Modwright Sony DVP-NS999ES Signature modification...before I put in a hybrid SACD, I choose SACD from the CD/SACD option from the remote control, but after a few seconds, the SACD logo turns off and it plays the disk on CD, as that little CD light turns on...

Any idea if that is normal with hybrids disks?

No, choosing SACD should play the SACD layer.

Well, all of a sudden, I set it up using the video screen and it stays on SACD allright, but it freezes randomly for a few seconds...I guess it will end up happening anyway right, total freeze on the SACD layer...?

More than likely it will eventually stop - but in the mean time it will drive you crazy as it will work for a bit, then stop, then start, then......   

Send it to Dan and they will take care of you.

When my player was at Dan's, I had my laser replaced even though I had no issues.  This essentially set the laser clock back to zero for me.  And I still have my old one just in case.

No problem replacing the laser.  Flat $150 + return shipping charge.

Should solve the problem.
