I'm hoping it's the upcoming VR-66 that Albert alluded to in another post.

See the Wiz working.

Is that Scot Hull with Albert or somebody wearing the Part Time A'phile shirt??  Is that the behemoth that's going to Jimmy's?  Holy moly has he hired a team of Egyptians yet?  :duh:

The one and only. Albert stands over six feet tall. He made the Jrs look like miniatures.

I'm not used to seeing him dwarfed. Even 11s hardly did that

I have much respect for the "Wiz" but those speakers are way to big!! If I had a huge room and some $$$, then I might be interested, I'm with Gavin, more on the so called VR-66!

OK, so who here is planning to be in Denver??  I just booked hotel (Marriott is sold out at the show rate but there's good deals nearby).

My days of booking flights are pretty much over.  The last two trips we had planned including last year's RMAF had to be canceled due to chronic lower back issues.  Of course the tickets were non-refundable.  It really bums me out because the RMAF is a great show....bummer.

Hello Fellow Audiophiles,

At the upcoming RMAF, we will be showing a new model which is a departure from my past work.  I have spent the last few years testing and designing new transducers with my manufacturing partners, Scanspeak, SEAS, Audax, Scandesign and Accuton.  As you have noticed by looking at our VR-100XS, I have been very impressed with the technological and sonic advantages of ultra-stiff membranes.  Magnesium, when coated with a ceramic oxide along with a rear coating of synthetic latex, has proven to be an excellent diaphragm material; in fact I am surprised that other manufactures have not jumped on this material.  They do require intensive crossover design, as it would be easy to make these sound less-than-perfect, and that's probably the reason why others don't want to try them.

The new model that I am bringing to the show uses a reverse form of the current drivers.  I'm not going to be any more specific than that, as the drivers are still being tweaked.  The new model is not what I described in my press release a few weeks ago, it is something different that I wanted to show instead.   It is expensive, but not more so than other systems in this quality range.

That's all I want to say about the new model, other than it will have enormous dynamic range due to the built-in "booster" amplifiers for the woofer modules.  Even if you don't have a low powered tube amplifier which cannot easily drive the woofers to a satisfactory level, it is really nice to be able to adjust the overall bass level to match your room conditions.  We all know audiophiles who love formidable bass and plays his subwoofers louder than his main speakers.  Although I personally don't set up speakers that way, there are people who have bass-shy rooms or rooms with too much bass gain.  In these cases, it makes perfect sense to be able to adjust the woofer volume level to match the room conditions.

As always,

Happy Listening!

Aluminum honeycomb sandwich, perhaps?  These Technics flat-driver speakers were all the rage in the 1980's !

Sounds like there is not a lot of VSA owners going but if you read this, know there is a general Audio Circle gathering in the Marriott Bar on Friday, stating around 6pm. Open to all.

On my way out of Houston Patrick, arriving about the time the gates open!  Give me a ring later at 7133050566 and that goes for any of the VSA Circle folks.  It's a funny thing,,, I'm selling off my AF Hazelwood vr5 Annie's with an upper module VSA tweek hoping to snag a pr of the new 55's.  Last night with a potential buyer during an audition, I wondered if I might be going crazy to sell these off!  Like es on this site, I'm I'm a huge fan of this model.  I'm wondering if the 55's can sonically beat the 5's,,, cause I can't fault my 5's in any way.  I'll be sure to let u guys know tho!  I've got VSA and the new Endeavor 5's in the crosshairs this morning.  Will snap a few pics and comment, later!  Jack

I must come clean.  Today I was beckoned by the electrostatic siren song so I visited my local dealer for a listen (forgive me Albert for I have sinned)...the CLXs driven by the big Levinson amp.  Not to fear all my box speaker aficionados; although striking in appearance IMO, not even close sonically to what I have in my room.  Thin and etched...no 3D image at all even with the subwoofer turned on.  Remember the scene in the wizard of oz where the wizard's huge head was projected?  That's what it's like listening to the CLXs.  A giant 2 dimensional face.  Resolution out the wazoo but no depth of soundstage and a nonexistent low end.  I guess I'm just not a planar kinda guy
