Trivia question. Who made this tube?
« on: 29 Nov 2017, 03:44 am »
I was going through my box of old tubes and found a rectifier tube with most of the writing missing except for 35W4 and underneath it was GOE. I think it came out of an old Hallicrafters S 38 E shortwave radio I have. It got me curious so I looked on line but can't find an answer there. Anyone got an idea.

  Cheers Alan.

Mostly made by GE or Sylvania, it's a 35V filament (used as a string filament in radios/TVs) half wave rectifier.  Three letters is usually Sylvania.

I can't edit it but a picture speaks for itself. I tried to get the rubbed out writing to show up the best I can and I'm sure it will be familiar to someone. The Hardest part was getting the pictures into the reply. I just found out how to edit, it's called modify, see I'm not too old to learn.

Never seen this GOE maybe date code, but internally it looks like an RCA.

The frame on name is usual from RCA too, certainly it not GE:

With a GOE date code below the octagonal box it looks like a Sylvania to me. I had Sylvania 12AU7 blackplates that had the same looking octagonal box and code.
