Nikon firmware update breaks support for third-party batteries

It never occurred to me that the camera could tell who made the battery...

If third-party lenses are deliberately being ousted though, that's not fun. (Per article second para.)

    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.
Third-party batteries are much cheaper than original Nikon bats.
There is other article on how Nikon include meta-data on white balance to block 3ºparty software converters.

A few years back, I bought in Hong Kong a speed grip for my Nikon D200
even with two new original genuine Nikon batteries, I've always got the message:
Low battery.
I guess Nikon want to make sure you buy from them genuine
and I don't blame them.
The store sold me the speed grip as a genuine Nikon.
Well, the copy was good enough to fool me.

It's a lot more than just a battery. It has a high-tech chip that generates a security code response to the camera.

So... no/wrong code == third party?

I suppose this is somehow related to charging regime?
