You're welcome. I've been really nostalgic for the 1960s lately--although some recordings (like The Best of Wilson Pickett) sound awful. Pickett's cd, in particular, sounds like it was recorded at the bottom of a well.

Manhattan Jazz Quintet-  "My Funny Valentine"
This group hasn't gotten much coverage here at AC, but this recording and performance is excellent.  Wonderful dynamics and imaging. These are mostly Julliard type studio guys (you may remember Lew Zoloff from his Blood Sweat and Tears days).   I'll be looking to pick up more of their cds.

Hmmmm, the image doesn't want to paste.  Oh well, here is the link.

Alex....

Good group....top players...what's not to like.
Hard to give you "samples"....since they record for a Japanese label....but You Tube is your friend...some live and recorded material....

Right now I have a few CD's that have been spending a lot of time in the player

Cat Power - Jukebox
Holly Cole - Temptation
Dido - Safe trip home
Ry Cooder - Crossroads soundtrack

Not all the songs are recorded fantastic, by my Salks just seem to open them up.

Safe Trip Home makes the rounds in my system too, the low end on track one is nice!

Cat Power - "You Are Free" is frequently played on my Salks as of late.  Definitely check it out if you want some good indie rock, singer/songwriter music.

Ok,

I just finished listening to:

http://www.amazon.com/Roadrunning-Mark-Knopfler-Emmylou-Harris/dp/B000F0UV0E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1272502375&sr=8-2-spell

Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris "All the Roadrunning"

Track 3, 'This is Us" (Play this LOUD)
Track 10, 'Beyond My Wildest Dreams'

These are my favorites on this CD, but the overall CD and its content is very, very nicely done. I am not a country fan big time, but I really enjoyed this CD.

Well recorded and well done..CW, Rock etc..

Try it you'll  like it!

All the best and thanks to Chris!
Alex

Scp2..

for the DIDO Safe Trip Home...

From the Amazon description:

"On the Deluxe version of the album there 3 more tracks that all are great additions"

I dont know if the recording is any different technically.

Actually picked that up yesterday from the used CD store (along with "The Greatest" and a bunch of other stuff).

Hi!

Just finished listening to: Pat Metheny's Solo CD "New Chautauqua"

http://www.amazon.com/New-Chautauqua-Pat-Metheny/dp/B0000261O4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273020039&sr=8-1

Wow, this is really nice.

I really enjoyed it, I think you need to be in the mood as with certain music that you may not be used to or familiar with.

This is a vintage 1979 performance, from what I read its a rare SOLO compilation from Pat Methany.

Awesome!

Thanks Chris

All the best
Alex

Hello Again!

I just finished listening to the N.Y Audio Rave - Reference Tracks - 2009

I do not have all the cd's so I can't comment on the overall quality of the cd's that these
songs are on. But the samples on this disc are certaintly of 'demo' reference quality for
sure.

So here are my favorites and maybe those of you that have the complete cd may want to add some
remarks as to the overall quality of the disc itself.

1. Black Coffee Peggy Lee  - WOW this is nice.
http://www.amazon.com/Black-Coffee-Peggy-Lee/dp/B0002XNMCS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273020606&sr=1-1

2. Bolivia - Brian Bromberg "Holy Cow, this is freaking awesome!!! :>)

http://www.amazon.com/Wood-II-Brian-Bromberg/dp/B000EHQ7JW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273021149&sr=1-1

3. 200 More Miles - Cowboy Junkies - I have both of the vds and highly recommend them both:

http://www.amazon.com/Trinity-Session-Cowboy-Junkies/dp/B000002WCL/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273021213&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.com/Trinity-Revisited-DVD-Cowboy-Junkies/dp/B0011XFOGU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273021213&sr=1-3

4. Race : In   by the Battles, Never heard of them until now.  Another WOW, have no idea about the rest of the disc.

http://www.amazon.com/Mirrored-Battles/dp/B000OLHGBQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273021806&sr=1-1

5. Blackbird - The Beatles. Very nice, the remastered version to me is just as good as it will ever get

http://www.amazon.com/White-Album-Remastered-Beatles/dp/tracks/B0025KVLU6/ref=dp_tracks_all_2#disc_2

6. Golden Rust - Robert Miles & Trilock Gurtu ...Another WOW be careful playing this LOUD :>)

http://www.amazon.com/Miles_Gurtu-Robert-Miles/dp/B0001AVZ5S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273022124&sr=1-1

7. Follow - Richie Havens...I have this and it AWESOME

http://www.amazon.com/Mixed-Bag-Richie-Havens/dp/B000001FOM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273022220&sr=1-1

8. While My Guitar Gently Weeps by Jake Shimabukuro..I dont usually like remakes and people that take my childhood heros "The Beatles" and try to re-invent their stuff....I will make an exception on this one! Excellent talent here and awesome sound.

http://www.amazon.com/Gently-Weeps-Jake-Shimabukuro/dp/B000HIP44M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273022434&sr=1-1

9. Growing Up by Peter Gabriel ...another WOW and Awesome etc!!

http://www.amazon.com/Growing-Up-Peter-Gabriel/dp/B00008XFBA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273022524&sr=1-3

10. My Skin by Natalie Merchant -  What to say its GOOD!

http://www.amazon.com/Ophelia-Natalie-Merchant/dp/B000006OAM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273022626&sr=1-1

I did not include all the tracks but this is a really good sampling and I am sure it will lead to many other recommendations over time!

All the best to lonewolfny42!!

Alex....

One track that I'm surprised you did not mention....“You Haven’t Done Nothin’ “ by Jen Chapin....that was played many times at RMAF '09....it was a hit there....but the rest of her album is just...so-so.
