Hello Again...

I was listening to Mino Cinelu:

http://www.amazon.com/Mino-Cinelu/dp/B000031WXD/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1265167639&sr=8-1

This is really good...Track 6 Outstanding Horizons, is absolutely shocking!!
This CD is 'Ear Candy' as one reviewer put it..

A must have for demo'ing and just listening to LOUD!  :eyebrows:

I also really liked Jimmy Smith's Dot Com Blues:

http://www.amazon.com/Dot-Com-Blues-Jimmy-Smith/dp/B000050J47/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1265168153&sr=1-2

Another gem!!

All the best
Alex

Nat,

Actually, Lucille is actually based on a custom-built ES-355. See here:

Hello!

I have three new cd's from Keiko Matsui.

The first is Cherry Blossom. Its a 24 bit HDCD disc.

Track 8 "Footsteps" is really good. It has real 'bite'.

Keiko Matsui's "stuff" can be very delicate, lots of deep and underlying things going on .... to the more mundane pop jazzy types of the likes of good ole Kenny G!!  :D

If your in the mood, this is good stuff and laid back.

Hearing this material on really good speakers makes it really an exploratory adventure here...well worth the listen..play it loud and smile!

Let you know about the other discs later!

All the best
Alex

Hey Alex,  :thumb:

You're right - Keiko gets it.

Do whatever necessary to get a copy of The Jazz Channel Presents: Keiko Matsui  BET on Jazz. It can be found on CD.

Listen to the last song, Blues Jam. :thumb:   The rest of it is pretty sweet, too.

Have fun,
Jerry

Haven't been on here much recently, but I see there's been some more fine recommendations. Don't know about everyone else here, but this economy is really killing me... slowed down my music purchases for sure. But anyway, kinda moving in a different direction from Keiko, was listening to Sia's Color The Small One earlier and found it quite interesting; made me stop and listen a bit. Will have to listen a bit more to really get a grasp. But was wondering if anyone here is familiar with her stuff?   TC

rlee8394,
Nice catch. I knew it was in the same Gibson "family". B.B. could probably make any guitar sing though!

Good stuff!

I have her self-titled debut album and The Sea, which was released last week.  I like the debut album much better.  However, there is a scratchy sound on the beginning of track 4, Till It Happens To You, which I think was added to sound like a "record" on a "record player".  I can't remember if that effect is present on other tracks, but the special effects prevent this from being an Outstanding Demo CD, IMO.  Beautiful music, nonetheless.

Sia has some good albums.  I have them all.  Some People Have Real Problems is very good.

If you like female singers and singer/songwriters, check out Rachael Yamagata's Live at the Loft (good demo), Keren Ann's Not Going Anywhere, Priscilla Ahn's A Good Day, Shelby Lynne's Just a Little Lovin' (little mastering and has a little distortion in the recording of the vocals in one track), Mia Doi Todd's GEA, and anything from my favorite, the brilliant Martha Wainwright (her self-titled album is not very well-recorded, IMO, but her earlier EPs are fairly well-recorded).

There are many other contemporary female singers that I like that might have been mentioned in earlier posts, such as Kelly Sweet, Sonya Kitchell, Vienna Teng, Rachael Loshak (Mint is good), Meiko, KT Tunstall, Regina Spektor, Bird York, Erin Bode, Kate Havnevik, Leslie Feist, and Imogen Heap.

B. B. played other guitars besides the Gibsons.  I watched B.B. play in several clubs in Memphis in the mid-80's, and I remember him playing a Gretsch double-cutaway on one occasion.

I type very quickly.  No broken shells under my chair.

I can't vouch for the recording quality of those artists' albums.  i just like the music.

Yes, I have Adele's album.  Do you like Duffy?   If you like younger singers, you might like Ingrid Michaelson and Anna Nalick; very pop stuff, in the Colbie Caillat genre, maybe.

Anna Nalick and A Girl called Eddy.  Both sound good.

I listen to the Amazon samples upstairs in my listening room through my Mac > Ayre DAC to my system.  Doesn't sound as good as the ripped CD but good enough to make a purchase.

Thanks
