Just listened to Dido - Safe Trip Home.

I had no idea who this singer was or is, now I do!

Simple, monotone, slow, deliberate, precise, smooth, exact...just plain different and very wonderful.

Several of the tracks could be demo tracks for Jims Salk Arrival CD's!

K SHep thanks for the recommendation, now I have to look at some of her other cd's....

Oh and yes this cd is a joy to listen to on the SongTowers!! Dang its really good!

All the best
Alex

Hello,

Richie Havens, "Mixed Bag"....I have had this for about a year now and I searched the thread and thought I recommended it but didnt find it...

So..."Highly Recommeded"

Track #5 "Follow" is the best bass I have ever heard on my SongTowers each time a bass note was plugged it was like "WOW..that was soooooo AWESOME".

http://www.amazon.com/Mixed-Bag-Richie-Havens/dp/B000001FOM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264812895&sr=8-1

Thanks to Chris aka Mr. Wolf for this one from a long time back!!

All the best

Alex...

Two more oldies but goodies....if you toes aren't tapping, then your dead...

First...Bill Withers....you've heard the tunes, here they are all in one spot... 8)

http://www.amazon.com/Lean-Me-Best-Bill-Withers/dp/B00004THKR/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264825994&sr=1-1

"Songwriter/singer/guitarist Bill Withers is best remembered for the classic "Lean on Me" and his other million-selling singles "Ain't No Sunshine" and "Use Me," but he has a sizable cache of great songs to his credit."

"The singer's warm vocals and wise lyrics have held up splendidly through the years, making him a likely candidate for periodic rediscovery. This anthology stands as the title of choice for the next wave of soul fans Withers wins over."

Second....Boz Scaggs....a guy that's been around for quiet a bit...after first finding acclaim as a member of the Steve Miller Band, singer/songwriter Boz Scaggs went on to enjoy considerable solo success in the 1970s.

http://www.amazon.com/Silk-Degrees-Boz-Scaggs/dp/B000HEZF90/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264826401&sr=1-1

"We have been waiting for a long time for this to be re-mastered and re-released....Silk Degrees comes alive on this version. The songs, of course, are wonderful, as anyone looking at this already knows and probably has owned it in more than one format. The sound is what draws you in and will keep you coming back for more."

A timeless treasure of blue-eyed soul that rocks !!! :thumb:

Check them out....

Bill Withers! Aint No Sunshine, My Imagination  wow do these bring back memories!!  :eyebrows:

Hello Again,

Stuck at home, so why not listen!

Chris Rea. "Road To Hell"

http://www.amazon.com/Road-Hell-Chris-Rea/dp/B000002JOF/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264865024&sr=8-3

A ten out of a ten.

Golly Gee Batman this is really a very good disc.

So much detail or 'fabric' in the music / songs.

Its really a very special treat, the songs, the material, the words...so good.

This is another recommendation from the speaker "master" Chris aka Mr. Wolf!!!  :D

All the best!

Alex,

Life For Rent and No Angel or both well recorded.

Safe Trip Home's first track is wonderful, great bass and separation.  I hope you enjoy Pipe.

An excellent album...... :thumb:

Thanks, guys, just got from the local library. It is a jaw dropper. If you like New Orleans jazz/blues, this cd is a must-have.

I 'borrowed' some copies of a few Jack Johnson albums in mp3. Am curious if anybody can confirm if these would be demo quality in the correct format. Sure does sound good for mp3, and has the right "qualities" us audio nutjobs would look for in demo music.

Bob,

Which tracks or albums?

I use some Jack Johnson songs from a couple of his albums as reference/test songs:

Brushfire Fairytales - "Inaudible Melodies" and "Bubble Toes"

On and On - "Times Like These", "The Horizon Has Been Defeated", "Taylor", and "Rodeo Clowns"

Sounds like we're on the same page George. The songs you listed are a couple of the "biggies" in my mind, among others.
The albums I've been listening to are:
- Brushfire Fairytales
- In Between Dreams
- On and On (really like that one)

Looks like it's time to return my mp3 "loaner" and buy the CDs.
Thanks George.

Hi Bob, about Jack Johnson...

I am reposting my comments from an earlier thread

http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=63505.0

I am a big Jack Johnson fan and had the pleasure of seeing him live a couple of summers ago and Donovan Frankenreiter opened for him.

My wife took me to that show as a birthday present.  We had a blast.  I am also now a big Donovan Frankenreiter fan.

I have all of his recordings and the first 3 on vinyl also.

I like that Sleep Through The Static was recorded off the grid on solar power and I believe they used analog equipment in the process.

I think his first three albums were significantly better music wise than the last two.  I really like the recording quality on this latest one.  The music on this last one has grown on me but it is not close to his best work, Brushfire Fairytales.

Just my opinion.
