I'm thinking of AKG.  I already have the Beyer T1's, DT 990's, Audeze LCD'2 and the Grado RS1i's.  If I go the AKG route what is their best model?  I love mid range.

Mid-range? :o I would dont waste money in it.
Go for the K1000 used. There is inclusive replacement for its drivers.

No idea. But why not a new amp instead?

FWIW I've found it makes a surprising difference. No real conclusion yet tho - working on it ;)

I think the 812 is their best headphone although it might have some similarities to your T1.

I believe he was speaking about that part of the frequency spectrum that resides above the lower & below the upper frequencies, but in a
way you're right ! Lower to Mid "priced" headphones normally don't have the ability to reproduce the musical information in this region in a
satisfying manner as they usually overemphasize the Bass or the Treble parts of the music

Hmmm... It seems you have a number of pretty good headphones already in place. You might want to consider getting a dedicated headphone amp that should give all your headphones the benefit of better support. All of those headphones are pretty good, the common thread to them not working for you may be simply what's in front of them !

Lot of good suggestions here so far.  I can add the Mr. Speakers Alpha Primes.  But are they in the same league as your listed headphones?  And with the sale mentioned by jaylevine, HD800's can be had with change left over from your return for an amp maybe...Or save this return and a few more pennies for one of Vinnie Rossi's little LIO gems to play your present stock on...Ah, choices!

Good Luck!

Milford: One of the most anticipated headphones is the ENIGMAcoustics Dharma, which is just about ready to hit the market. It's a hybrid electrostat and Tyll (and others) have raved about the pre-production version. Will retail for right around twelve bills.

So Milford3,

Did that return burn a hole in your pocket yet?  What did you get?  Results?

What amp are you using to drive them?  The HPs and amp must be matched.

Milford do you ever use iem's??
 My list....
I'd personally would look at top of line Sennheiser.
Then top of line Audeze maybe but 2K will get you a phenomenal DAP ...any of them and the digital hidef file with your assortment of cans....WOW!! You could use it through the MP301 as a digital player......Astell & Kearn, Ibasso, Hifiman, you can pick....you have awesome end game why not get a ripping source for hi def files.....I use my X3 with Havi B3 or Momentum in ear monitors when I walk for physical therapy and its incredible and my stuff maybe totals at $350....man 2K would be a great source.... :banana piano:  :drums: :violin:
