The Pavlovian Pop Culture is all out of new ideas, and there is no semblance of a Counter Culture movement to give it propulsion. When all else fails, appeal to the primal instincts instead of the intellect.

So the bell rings, and the dog drools.

I think the proliferation of computer based music engineering has watered down the proficiency of musicianship. However there are still a lot of good songs today to my taste:

Here is a link to an article in the New York Post that describes the pop hit writing process. Virtually every hit tune you may hear was written by the same small group people in marathon sessions where two potential hits are written in a single day. These sessions can last several days until the artists and producers have a full slate of songs for the artist's next album.
Almost all of the current top acts use this method to create hit songs.
Small wonder songs start sounding same with this assembly line approach song writing.

The YouTube video is like a guy who thinks hamburgers are the only food that has ever existed explaining how we used to have great mom and pop burger joints before McDonald's and Burger King came along. It's a good explanation as far as it goes but it doesn't explain how he/we came to view nothing beyond hamburgers as food.

News Flash: Most of the good music was written and performed before 1955!

If you listen to KCRW.com out of Santa Monica you would think music has never been better. The best music from all over the world (mostly new stuff). I am constantly searching online to find out who sings that song when I tune in. They are reminiscent of the old CFNY "The Spirit of Radio" back in it's very early days. Listen for a month because they have so much variety.

I get this station locally via my analog tuner but people listen from all over the world via the internet.
