Capital Audio Fest 2014
« on: 30 Jul 2014, 06:08 am »
All,

Had a good show last weekend in DC!  Thanks to all who visited and it was a pleasure meeting new faces and seeing familiar ones.

We kept it really simple this time:

- RWA-Z1ES-2.5 for the source
- Signature 57 Integrated (dual mono tube input stage option)
- Harbeth SHL5plus (first pair in the USA!) monitors
- Tellirium Q cabling / Realtraps

Looks like there has already been some postings from our room:

Room 715: The Red Wine Audio room was directly across the hall from my hotel sleeping room. Because the people were so nice and the sound was so "just right," I kept running in, listening, and taking pictures. However, for these same reasons, the room was always crowded, I never really got to speak at length with Vinnie Rossi, and that is a shame.

Vinnie was proudly demonstrating the Red Wine Signature 57, battery-powered integrated amplifier ($995) [edit - this is an error.  Price as shown is $4995]. You all know I love integrateds, so it will be no surprise that I was smiling like a kid on his first date listening to the Sig 57 drive the Harbeth Super HL5-plus loudspeakers. This was a made-in-paradise combination. To imagine what I heard think opposites: Extremely smooth yet extremely textured; extremely subtle yet extremely dynamic. Mr. Vincent Rossi was also using his Red Wine Audio RWA-Z1ES-2.5 (who thinks of these names?) tube modification of the Sony HAP-Z1ES music server.

I eventually wandered down to the floor below. Someone opened a room door and music flooded out. Following the music, I discovered Harbeth Super HL 5 speakers being driven by a Red Wine integrated amp and a Sony HAP Z1 music file player that had been modified by Red Wine with a tube output stage. This room created a very convincing musical illusion and I must especially credit the modified Sony player as I know the stock player does not sound as good as what I was hearing. The Harbeth Super HL5 speakers are updates of the BBC LS 3/6 and despite their large by modern standards proportions, they hide behind (and present) music very effectively.

I will post more feedback as it becomes available (thanks to those who have been emailing me with these links!).

Here is a pic of the room:

Congrats Vinnie.  Some day that level of componentry will be in my living room...some day...

P.S.  Digging the Sig 16 and Bellina - just letting the break-in process flow.

More show reporting - this time from Scot Hull, Part Time Audiophile himself!

http://parttimeaudiophile.com/2014/08/04/caf-2014-red-wine-audio-decanted-and-ready-to-drink/

Will all the show reporting (some of the best I've seen) that he and his team does, you'd think he'd be
called FULL TIME Audiophile by now!    Talk about dedication!

And a mention here as well:

With a nod to the new Harbeth SHL5plus:

Harbeth Loudspeakers continues to produce very musical products. They showed in two rooms. In the larger room, the Super HL5 plus’ ($6890/pair) were driven by Red Wine Audio Signature 57 Integrated Amplifier ($4995). No matter what’s thrown at Harbeth, they throw music right back. Each octave is in tune with the other, no frequency shifts, nothing jumping out at you. Both rooms were set up carefully to show off speakers and electronics at their very best.

I thought this was a very good sounding room and Vinnie seems like a great guy to deal with.
