Choice of Tube DAC 24/192
« on: 7 Jun 2014, 10:29 am »
Hi everyone

I use wav and SACD-R transport. I am looking to buy a new 24/192 DAC with Tube output.

 My shortlist is:
 Mhdt Labs Stockholm V2
 Mhdt Labs Steeplechase AK4396
 HLLY 24BIT 192KHz 2*AD1955
 Promitheus Audio Tube DAC
 Acoustic Plan DigiMaster
 Cary Audio DAC-100t
 Line Magnetic LM-502CA

Any comments and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

 Anton

I don't have any experience with the dacs on the list, but I have had the Audio Note Kits 2.1b dac.
Very good dac for the money, and can be upgraded easily with better sounding parts.
Pete Fulton, http://www.digitalpete.net/, can build it for you. All of the builds on the AN Kits site are done by him.

Good luck  :D

Agreed, there are many Lampizator L4's on the used market as owners are upgrading. The USB input is really good.
FYI, the ANK Dacs, only do 16/44.1, even though they can accept higher res data.

USB input is not necessary. I only use the CD transport and SD-Card transport with SPDIF or AES/EBU

EAR 192 Dacute

Many DACS out there have superior digital chops, but few rule the analog domain like this one.
I own one.

What better EAR Yoshino 192 or Abbingdon AMR DP-777?
What reference dvd-audio transport I can use with that DACs? May be Classe CDT-300?

Thank you

I am interested to hear opinions about Cary DAC100t and Lampizator L4G4 too.

ModWright will release a new DAC (Elyse)

If I wanted a new tube DAC, I'd first call Gary Dodd.  Dodd Audio:thumb:

In addition to the Lampizator DAC line-up, there is also the Tube DAC from Valve Audio Devices that handles PCM and DSD in Stereo

A friend took delivery of a ModWright BPD-105D about a month ago.  Very impressive as a USB tube DAC.  It quickly supplanted his Auralic Vega for digital playback.

I'll be getting the new VAD in soon.  Now does DSD128 too.  Gregor is an interesting guy.
