Bryston DB on BDP-x

What information is stored in the Bryston DB? Does it actually STORE metadata or does it just sort/index information on the disk?

I have used the "i" button to go in and update blank fields (e.g. Album Artist, Genre) that didn't get captured when I ripped the CD. I click on Save and the scrolling bar stops and indicates that the information has been Saved. Then I exit the window, go back to Media Player and click on Update to incorporate my changes (supposedly into the Bryston DB). The countdown (count up?) progress window pops up and ends with a msg Build Finished. However, when I go back to play the cut again, my changes have not been incorporated! Are these metadata fields even stored in the Bryston DB? If not, what exactly does this editor do and what happens when you click on Update?

I am using .WAV files on an exFAT formatted drive. Editing is done on a Mac.

Thanks for any help that you can give me so that I can stop wasting time doing edits that don't ever get updated.
