Good linear psu (100w or more)
« on: 4 Jan 2018, 10:17 pm »
I want to upgrade the external psu of my music server with a linear one. 12v only single rail to feed the internal pico-psu (160w theoretically, actual pc uses 60w but i want headroom for upgrades).

I have been recommended the Keces (dc-116 and p8 both fits the bill). Other suggestions?

I use the excellent Paul Pang USB card in my music server so I would guess his linear power supplies would be just as nice.

Scroll about 2/3 down the page, he has a lot of other audiophile products you should check out.

Thanks. I want to get that usb card too (the v2 should be fine).
About psu, i digged more and found out that i can get rid of the pico dc-dc inside my case and go fully linear, and that should bring improvements.
I have found only two psu already setup this way:

http://www.teradak.com/products/105.html
and
https://jcat.eu/product/400w-pc-linear-power-supply/

They are both overkill in power at present but that would be future-proof for hw upgrades (i will get a 10nm xeon or something else with many low power cores)

I've been using a Teradak 12V13A for the last 2 (3?) years and it's been on 24/7. I've been satisfied with it feeding my DAC (Dangerous Source).

Another person did compare that Keces with the Teradak to feed the Dangerous Source and preferred the Teradak.

Teradak psus look really well built and r-core transformers have less rfi (that's why they are used in DACs).

Yes, i have to check hd plex yet. Maybe they have a full pc psu now.

Yes, they do:
https://www.hdplex.com/hdplex-fanless-400w-atx-linear-power-supply-with-modular-atx-output.html

I found out the price. It looks identical to jcat one. Price too, converting €/$.
They dont show an inside picture, so im going to ask about transformer and ripple figures.

My first call would be Mojo Audio.  I have owned the Joule 3, 4, and 5.  He may have some of these used (they're superior to others I have seen aftermarket).  The latest is called the illuminati.  I have not owned it but the owner tells me it exceeds all competition performance and it is highly customizable.  http://www.mojo-audio.com/low-noise-linear-power-supplies/
