Open, on-ear, or over-ear designs for use with MacBook Air and Tidal.  Budget ~ $100 USD.

TIA

I've been reading up on headphones in that price bracket and if were to pull the trigger
today I'd go with the Audio Technica ATH-M40X. If I come up with the scratch I'll go with the M50X.
M40 can be had for $99 and $150 for the M50X.

Without regard for sonic preferences... The Sennheiser PX-100 remains one of my favourites and is my recurring recommendation for a budget friendly open-backed headphone. In a full sized, there's the Senn HD559 (though you can probably find a used HD598 within budget as well). If you don't mind really really big, the Audio Technica AD700x or 900x is good as well.

There was a Sony model in your budget that made a top 10 list of best headphones at a price, unfortunately, I am at work and can't remember that model.

Seems the Grado SR 60 or 80 are always in the running of good value cans but some comment not the best for long term listening.

I'm sure the price has gone back, I picked up a Hifiman Edition S for $149 on sale in July and love them.  I'm not sure if they have any over the ear in your price.  The bass and overall sound is tight and focused, more so than my Sennheser HD580's.

I keep loving my Grados, long term listening-wise - their now discontinued older in-ears and their SR200's (replaced by the SR225i's.) So YMMV.

Philips SHP9500 open over ear $72 on Amazon... After breakin they are very neutral, revealing, and comfortable. Until breakin they are somewhat brash, my breakin time was under 50 hours.

Never heard them so trust the more experienced posters before me, but if you act quickly they are on sale for $50. Not sure if S9500 is a different model...??

One review I looked at said they are a bit bright? Is that correct?

How do any of these recommended headphones match up (sound quality/drive) with the Meridian Explorer 2?
