DIY Pure Audio Project Trio TB
« on: 29 Oct 2016, 09:56 pm »
I've been breaking in the TB 1808-8.......very nice, but I know I'm going to end up with the Vox.....

Anyway......here goes.
Ordered up some 3/16" flat stock, drilled the pilot holes and cut them to length....

I decided to go a bit different than PAP connection to baffles. They use baffle to wood, I used a 1/8" breakshape
that I had made up......1'x 2"x 1-1/2"

I bolted the frames together, making sure that everything was true and square....

For the back spine I used wood.....could of used another breakshape, but I thought the wood would soften the
lines a bit and make it a bit less industrial looking.....
Heres a pic of the baffles being dry fastened to the breakshape.....

This is what they looked like assembled....

Took the baffles off to paint. The frames came out nice....

I used the hammered/texture type......I like the look of it...

Gave the baffles a shot of primer today....

I've decided to go with a raspberry/burgandy for the center baffles and black for the upper and lowers.
I'll continue on when I start the baffle painting.....
Thanks for looking.

Perry

Very cool Perry, will these be your own rendition or buying the parts from PA?

I bought the Woofers from PAP through Grant Fidelity....The Tangs from Parts express.

Thanks for the compliments!

Some progress.................

I used a piece of black plexiglass to mount the binding posts.
I thought I had 8pcs of the ones on the right....nope, but
it might be just as well, easier to tell apart

I added the spikes.....the rear one is 1/2" lower than the two front spikes...this tilts the
baffle back a bit.....because the Tang is low, I think this is a good idea.

From behind, with both woofers mounted....

The pair.....

Painted the center baffle today.....  8)

Thanks for looking!

Very cool, interesting to hear how the new woofers compare to your servo's.

What will you do for XO? And where do you live again? Boy would I love to hear these vs Supers.  :thumb:

Nice work!!

Nice work!!

I really dont think the Woofers are going to compare to the servos in the Super V.....nothing I've heard in OB comes close, but we'll see.

I'm going to try mini DSP......if I dont like it I'll try the passive from PAP

I live just outside of Edmonton Alberta.....where for some strange reason its getting up to 65F today.....yay!

Thanks for the compliment Nick.

Today I finished placing the baffles, and wired them up.
Time to get them into my room....

Nice. What about the crossovers. Can you share build cost. How did you bend the side channels.

WOW Perry, not certain how I missed this thread.  Fantastic work as always, I like you color choices, they look great.  Should go great with your equipment rack.  I look forward to reading your thoughts on the sound.

Best,
Ed

Yes let us know how they sound. Have you heard the commercial product before building?

Zeev,

Of all your designs, your Trio15 PAP-Horn1 looks most interesting  :P

Any plans on having them perform at any of the upcoming audio shows? I'm partial to CD designs, in particular waveguides and certain but not all horns.

Best,
Anand.

Ze'ev, how about a show in New York-particularly Long Island? Many here want to build nice systems but have small rooms. And if your OBs can really do down to 30Hz, produce a huge sound stage, airy highs and a 3D midrange-all at 20" from the rear wall-these speakers would generate a lot of interest. Please give it some thought about making it happen soon.

I've put together the cross over,
Mundorf and Solen.

When I get a few days on these I'll give a comparison
between the PAP and my others....GR Super V and the Selah Symmetricas.

Hey Perry,

Nice tidy work on the crossovers!  I've been really impressed with the Mundorf m-Resist Supreme resistors. What do you think of them?  Also, when you wired-up the large coils, did you go in through the inner lead and out through the outer, or vice-versa. It shouldn't mater but some knowledgeable crossover guys swear it makes a difference.

So.....

These are really nice, REALLY nice.
I wasnt impressed with the mini dsp....and shouldnt of been,
I put very little effort because I wanted to hear them with the
passive cross over. They've been in my room for a few months now
and I was really under whelmed, I didnt think the new cross over
would bring THAT much to the table....wow.

So these are going to stay put.
I needed a nicer look to them so decided to build a new, nicer baffle.
Not modular like the PAP, if I upgrade I'll mod the panel
or build a new one.

I went with a kind of barn wood look. We live rural, raise horses
and live the life so I thought these could reflect that a bit.
I used 3/4"Pine board so the back had to be braced very well.
The back of the panel has an old wood look to it.

A pic of the back with the braces....

Sitting in the shop.

Heres a couple of the fronts sitting in their new home.

These things are the real monte.....great deal all and all.
