Okay so I use DBPoweramp to rip CD's with Lossless/Uncompressed FLAC files directly to the hard drive. I have Windows 7 Pro running with SP1.

I simply created a file called FLAC right on the laptop, and of course this file is now populated with several artists albums etc...

I also copied this FLAC file on to an external drive as well for backup and connection to a usb server on the main audio system. Copy and paste was a simple method that took over an hour or so to move 250 Gb plus.

But now this backup copy exists I am at a point that I don't want to have to re-copy this entire file every time I need to add a few things to the original file.

I tried some of the windows backup functions as well as just "Copy / Paste" onto the external backup drive thinking these files would just "Sync" or "Merge" missing files only, but it wants to overwrite, or redo the entire file every time.

What program or method can I use to just simply "Update" my backup copy? So if I add just 3 albums I don't need to go and find those 3 only trying to remember what I just ripped to directly move only those files manually by themselves.

In other words a simple way to just trigger an update transferring only the new files each time I backup the copies on the other drive.

I know Adobe Bridge will do this pretty easily and fast, but honestly for the 2 times every 6 months I need to do this update I don't want to buy something like Adobe bridge for this pretty simple, and basic function.

Thanks

I use robocopy to make backup of my music and critical files.  I currently run it manually once a week but plan to automate it.

robocopy sourcedir destdir /MIR (be careful with the MIR option, because if you delete a file under source directory it will delete it in destination directory also when you run the command)

For an easy to use program with a graphical user interface, take a look at Microsoft SyncToy 2.1

No doubt Microsoft SyncToy 2.1 is the best option here.

http://www.dirsyncpro.org/ is more complicated than necessary

http://www.goodsync.com/ is not FREE

Also the SyncToy 2.1 is nice with 3 options either to "Sync" both drives meaning it just makes either one of the drives changes effective on both drives identical, "Echo" which means it will only copy your main drive to the other exactly including anything added or deleted, "Contribute" which is just ADD new files not delete them from your main drive to the other.

Thanks again

Why don't you just copy over the new folders you have created with the new rips?

I used Microsoft's Sync Toy for years, and then switched to GoodSync [not free, as mentioned] and it has been working well.

Don't be cheap. Look how much you spend on your audio equipment and music files.  :)

I use robocopy and it is free. For more info see some of the following links.
http://ss64.com/nt/robocopy.html
http://www.computerhope.com/robocopy.htm

I use a command as mentioned in this link - Mirror copy a directory which creates a replica of the source folder in the specified destination folder.

Robocopy /MIR sourceFolder  destinationFolder

****This command also deletes any extra files that are present in the destination and are not present in source.****

Robocopy \\servername\Music\Flac E:\Music Flac /mir
