Wow.   :o
I've read this thread to this point looking at the awesome pictures of this amp, and could hardly wait to get to the bottom of the thread so I could spill my accolades.
Imagine my surprise.

Ok then. Thanks fellas. Very much appreciated, and "yes', I'll show Abbie the thread.

This is a piece of art. I loved machined metal. The detail put into the "cubby holes". The caps have their very own "nest". That's just fantastic.
I love the photos, thank you very much. I'm enjoying them. Please keep them coming.

The rendering you showed early on had some of the components darker in color. Are you going to anodize some of them?

Thanks again!
Bob (and Abbie)

Hi Bob! You're the Bob where the others where talking about? Cool!
I have got to find out what it's all about  :icon_lol:

Great to hear you like it, I also treat this amp like a piece of art, i did my best to pay attention to every detail. To carefully select the right tools to get the best finish and overall result :-)

It will be anodized, i'm not 100% sure yet which color, but it can't stay like this. It'll get dull and it's too sensitive.

Regards to Abbie, whoever (s)he might be, i'll find out soon i guess!  :green:

I'm curious about a BOM and schematic.

That thing is ludicrous! You've made everyone on here wish they had a CNC machine.... and the will for autocad.

Oh boy, if everyone had a CNC machine, it wouldn't be special anymore  :o I'm sure there'd be a lot more product much nicer than this one  :green:
But i'm happy you like it, glad i made others happy as well  8)

Hi,

I'd be interest to know how much metal you used and the cost?  It is a wonderful looking amplifier and I hope it sound as good as it looks.

Cheers Rod

The aluminum for the body was 404X304x91MM and the bottom plate was 284x384x6MM. the front came out of 60x40x225MM stock and the brackets was 20x70MM length 100 and 150MM
And a few pieces of delrin where used.

The main block was a bit over 30KG and the materials alone are roughly $450,00 for all aluminum parts.

And i hope the final looks will be just as good as the sound already was  :green:

Nice work. Good to see another CNC machinist here on AC.

Just playing around with Surfcam.

Hi WireNut,

Same to you too!

Do you like SurfCam? What are some key-features of it?

I like Surfcam a lot. Wish I had my own CNC mill for speaker building. Surfcam can pretty much do whatever you want up to 5 axis. You can edit your own NC post as well.
I'll probably be learning Mastercam in the near future. Should be the equivalent of Surfcam. I've been a CNC machinist and programmer for 35 years now.

You do good work BTW.

I don't want to derail your (awesome) thread, but >>HERE's<< a link to her speaker build thread.

Regarding the color of anodizing, I like the two tone gray in your rendering.   :thumb:

By the way, do you have a name we can call you?

I've made a new front this evening (european time ). This one is a bit wider, so it fits properly in the hole of the case that got a bit too big.

I've been playing a bit with the "old" front, a bit of polishing, but i'm not sure what to think of it. I don't think it leaves a nice finish.
But perhaps a bit of light polishing is a good pre-anodizing treatment...

New faceplate looks great, along with the name change & adding a model number. I wouldn't worry about the font, yet.

I have done some light aluminum polishing with motorcycle parts in the past.  I found a process that yielded decent results with light hand work.

Then I spent $100 CDN to get a swingarm professionally done with different compounds and wheels.  OMG it was totally different.

My work was similar to yours.  The pro stuff was like a mirror.

I think your work looks totally amazing, and if you decide to have the front etched, anodized, polished or powder coated, it will just be a different take on what already is stunning.

There have been a couple of setbacks in the past two weeks. That's why there haven't been any updates.
I really hope to get going again soon because i'm so close now to finishing this project  :green:

I'll keep you guys updated when there's something worth mentioning.

So you better finish before the baby arrives, your free time will be gone after that.

And enjoy them while you can.  Before you know it you'll have a teenage daughter who may or may not still talk to you.

Mine talks to me when she wants something. 8)

Well Randy, if all goes well, someday you can teach her how to build a set of speakers for her room.
