A very nicely done video review of the LDR3.V2 Passive Preamp by Ron Brenay at NewRecordDay.com
I think Ron is on to something with his creative video format approach to audio reviews.  :thumb:

Enjoy!

Nice review, even though this guy is a little annoying.

I had the Magnum 99 preamp for a weekend audition a few years ago. I promply sent it back on Monday morning. I'm not surprised the LDR beat it. My Modulus 3a handily beat it.

Congrats on the review.

Nice review, and his opinions are valid to me.  I find the reviewer a little on the odd side, and decreases his credibility some with me.  He certainly has his own style.

Rogue makes pretty good preamps, especially with great tubes installed.

Ron is Ron and has his own unique style which is undeniably a part of his video review format. Not another one just like the other one. Plus he's just a very decent human being. Liked him from the moment I first met him.

I kinda enjoy his somewhat quirky perspective, he does get his point across. Enjoyed his review and pretty spot on.  :thumb:

Personally I think he's a bit of a camera hog.

Yes, he's a camera hog, but I'm getting used to him...... Nice job, Ron.

I enjoyed the review even though it's a bit "over the top". Very good explanation of the care needed in configuring a system suitable for use with the Tortuga. I do wish some experimentation had been done with the adjustable input impedance feature though.

You know, thats really solid feedback. The impedance changing was actually awesome and I was shocked at the impact it had on my system. You are right, I should have spent more time walking though that.

So the Rogue has a new home and the LDR is now your reference?

Not quite. I wanna try some tube rolling with the Rogue. With that being said, id be happy to use the Tortuga for reference as well. Its fantastic.

So what's your problem ? Just hanging around looking for something negative? You should at least give the guy a little time to answer. If he doesn't answer quickly enough you issue a snide remark.

There's no obligation to respond and before yank'n someone's crank give it some time. Folks have day jobs and it's hardly been 12 hours. Ease off the peddle a bit.  :thumb:

Ron, good video.

Without derailing this thread too much though, I would make one suggestion.

I don't know what you have plugged into that Belkin PureAV, but if its anything critical in the chain (amp, preamp, phono), I would work on demoing some other options if you haven't already.

I had one of them in my main audio system for years, and when I replaced it with a Synergistic Research PowerCell, it was night and day different. The Belkin was really strangling my system, and robbing it of air and dynamics. I am sure there are various options, at different price levels, that could easily improve upon the Belkin.

:thumb: Keep up the good work in any event.

Wow... how funny you mention this!

After the Tortuga review, I needed to make some space for my next project with the LKV Line One and Veros One. For the first time since I bought it, I yanked out the Belkin from the system because I needed to and sure enough, I am convinced I do hear a difference in bass dynamics and top and resolution. I think you are onto something man... I need to send off some emails and get some stuff in for testing!

Great feedback, thanks!
