vda-2
« on: 29 Sep 2010, 11:32 am »
I just bought last week from a hifi-dealer in the Netherlands http://www.hifi123.nl/ a VDA-2 (S/N DC3914) and a VAC-1 (S/N BB5901).
I connected the VDA-2 to the coax digital signal and the VAD-2 was working fine,  but after 8 hours the VAD-2 was dead.
I checked that the right SPDIF (COAX/OPTICAL) was still on the right selection.
Then I unplugged the COAX,  at that moment the DAC VDA-2 was making a mechanical noise  like a vibration noise of a coil.
Hand contact on the RCA outputs did stop the vibaration.
I re-plugged the COAX and the vibration stopped, but no blue signal.
I disconnected/reconnected   the power supply (VAC-1), no change
I let it for a night disconnected and I reconnected the DAC and all was working fine (was it the heat - but the DAC was not really hot).

What could be the problem then? Do I have to send it back for a service?

For the moment (after 20 hours) the DAC is working fine and  I hear a sound improvement if connected to a squeezebox classic, but there is really no sound improvement when connected to my squeezebox touch .
My HIFI is a  rather "high end" (roksan kandy  ampli  + KEF Q11 loudspeakrs, making a 4000$ investment ). So if the DAC works fine it has be noticeable.
Are do I have to wait for a couple of hundred hours more before he's burned in?

The clicking noise is the mute relay...it sounds like you had a flaky connection.
The mute relay engages when there is no valid signal present at the input. The clicking is caused when it cannot stay locked to a signal. This could be caused by a poor digital connection or RF noise.

Complete burn-in takes 200-300 hours. In our demo system, there is a very noticeable improvement when switching from Touch analog output to VDA-2.
