Tube Depot el-84 amp sale - 20% off

Tube Depot has their smallish Eclipse el-84 integrated amp on sale for $100 off ($499 ===> $399) for a limited time.  Cool amp with gz-34 rectifier and 12ax7 input tubes, two inputs and a maple cabinet.  I haven't heard it, but at $399 and simple operation, it may be of interest for a small bedroom/kitchen setup.  Being SE, it outputs 3.5 w/channel, so efficient speakers are needed.

Note that the stated frequency response is 50 - 50,000 Hz (not very low).  I can see the point, to save the amp from trying to power hungry bass signals, but quite limiting for in-room use.  I wish it had been designed with one stereo input with a subwoofer output rather than two stereo inputs.

EL84 amps need pricier output transformers to go below 50-60Hz.  I've seen a lot of them that skimped in this area, including most of the vintage Magnavox console amps.  It would be rare to find an economy-priced EL84 amp with the more expensive, beefier OPTs.   They do sound better when one uses a powered subwoofer.
