Audiogon has a "Blue Book" kind of website that will give you dollar figures for your stuff. You have to pay to play though.

I check Audiogon and http://www.usaudiomart.com/ and hope I find other ads for what I have to sell. Regardless of what the Audiogon Blue Book says, current ads are the competition.

Watch AG, AC, AA, Audio Mart(s), eBay and Craigslist to see what the market is like. I do that on a regular basis in case I want to buy/sell something, and that way I'm already zeroed in on what to ask/offer.

Also, audio shark. For Craigslist, use searchtmpest.

Have you had a shootout between your MF 750 and other amps to find replacement yet?

To a dealer, half of what you paid for it. If you're selling it, 2/3rds.

+1 on both sites

I find most used gear priced at about half original retail. Some high demand units command slightly more.

I think age plays a factor. There's some out dated tech I wouldn't pay the time of day to, for example.

But also some stuff is boring, some stuff is moving and shaking.

In general I think a fair amount of used gear gets sat on for a long time due to high expectations.

Absolutely. Older gear usually means more wear and tear. Also some gear retains its value better due to popularity / demand.

On planet Vietnam,
if your gear is GR Research or Bellari or Nightshade Audio
it's worth near zero $$$
However, look like Marrantz, Dynaudio and the same retain their value.
The Vietnamese goes pretty much by well known brand names.
I have a professional photographic business and
Lowepro, Manfrotto, Sekonic, Bowens, B+W Filter are well know brands
easy to sell and retain value than not well known brands like:
Falcon Eye, Daylite...
In the past few years I bought audio stuff that is reliable
and easy to repair and dont care too much about resale value since I keep my stuff,
of course it was not always like that.

Especially tube gear, which is ironic since age is more likely to degrade it due to the high voltages and temperatures. Case in point, Dynaco- good luck giving away the vintage SS Dyna-- the tube stuff still brings good $$ if in decent condition.
