Title: Best 2 channel preamp for MCH-K38?
Post by: Eric Gustafsson on 24 Jan 2017, 09:26 pm
I'm looking for "the best" 2 channel preamp to connect to my MCH-K38.
It must have double output terminals, rca or xlr.
Min 2 incoming terminals, rca.
Remote control.

Any suggestions?

There's that really fancy Bent Audio Tap-X that's been floating around on the trading post for a while. That might be worth a peek.

Look for the old NuForce MCP, exceptionally good multi-channel preamp that can be used as 2 channel preamp.
It was way over-killed when we designed it (full switch resistor ladder preamp) and under priced it.

The NuPrime HPA-9 has two pairs of RCA outputs and would make a good match for MCH-K38 (assuming you turned it into 4-channel mono)

Don Sachs Model 2 6SN7 tube preamp

Don makes them one at a time. Each one is made to order. You tell him what you want, he'll make it exactly the way you order it. I bought one. It's got Jupiter Cu caps.

Also a great choice if you are looking for tubes.

W4S STP-SE.

I've been using W4S STP-SE with Nuforce R9.  Compared with Electrocompaniet EC 4.8 with R9, I won't say either W4S or EC4.8 could better its contender.  I would say they are of the same level, just belonging to different sound character.  While the W4S was good at transparency due to its active/passive stage, EC 4.8 had more joyful presentation at the cost of some detail.
