Title: Input sensitivity for MAX rated output STA-9 and MCH-K38
Post by: zwizardofoz on 6 Dec 2016, 02:33 pm
Jason can you please publish the input sensitivity for the STA-9 and MCH K-38 volts in volts for FULL RATED OUTPUT not at 1W

Input sensitivity: 132mV, 1W @ 8 Ohms Not very helpful

But in the STA-6 thread you published a more meaning full value.

Sensitivity:1.2 V to rated power

Also is the Gain for the STA-9 and K32 really so low at 22db?

We designed the amp with certain complex circuit topology and some amp has high gain some has low gain. So unless we are open to have an engineering design discussion here, the questions and discussion will go on forever.  Anyway, a lower gain allow you to optimize the preamp with higher volume.

If you are trying to decide between STA-9 or MCH-K38, use the amp comparison guide.

actually using the STA-9's as amps for the LXmini with miniDSP 2x4 but its limited to 0.9V output but works much better with the miniDSP 4x10HD that has max 2.0V output and likewise the miniDSP 2x4HD that has 2.0V outputs. which is why I am asking what is the input voltage required to get rated output.

for ref the LXmini is detailed on http://www.linkwitzlab.com

Thanks for the reply anyway Jason ... I'm hoping the IDA-4 4 channel amp might be a winner for the LXmini setups.

I see, I will discuss with engineering to provide more details for the mono/stereo amps.  Some of these lower priced audiophile amps can be used for commercial, studio or DIY projects so more extensive specs is necessary.

We heard that a group of studio professionals in Taiwan are pairing MCH-K38 with Amphion monitors and they are asking for custom sound tuning of K38.
