So I am looking at a new CD player and the NAD C516BEE has got my attention but I want opinions from owners. The system it will be in is based around a Bryston B60 which is only 2 inches tall so I am trying to keep it small as well as Cheap and Cheerful.

I've always liked the Cambridge Audio line of CDPs.  The top model 651C is on sale at Amazon for $499.  Very smooth sound with some nice features.

A great sound CD player is useless if the optical transport is unreliable.
I missing the 1990s Denon DCD (1520 etc) line that used the Sony KSS151A transport.
A simple and robust device, without planned obsolescence.

I love my TASCAM CD200 CD player . Not the prettiest thing, but rock solid and it has the same great transport as the $900 Esoteric TEAC CDP
Around $225 from B+H
Rack ears come off with a phillips screwdriver
Comes with remote and has a headphone output along with pitch control

The late Rotel RCD991 had 7 levels of Dither control.
I never see other player w/this feature, even top machines as DCS.

Sorry I can't address the second part of your post
I was able to respond to your parameters in the first part of your post
I don't know any owners of the NAD CDP you mentioned and am not familiar with their reliability

You might consider the Onkyo C-7030.  Inexpensive, but sounds good.  Lots of in depth reviews on Amazon.
