Anyone know where to find these things? I wanted to get a Truth mod for one but I can't seem to find any available units ....

Do a search on Agon. American Theater claims to have it but if I remember correctly there might be mixed reviews about them

I just saw this on Audiogon today:
"I called the Sony outlet store in Aurora IL and they said they have them in stock for $1499. He checked the model twice and said they are in stock."
The Sony Style website had them listed as out of stock and now has them listed as 'Coming Soon' with an email notification option.
I wouldn't mind one myself................

If I remember correctly, American Theater had the last ones go for just over $1,000. And they sold out quickly. I was under the impression that they were gone for good. Good luck on getting one.

I asked Crutchfields, since they used to stock them and was told in reply that they no longer would be selling this model. I read online that Sony was changing its selling practices for the ES series so this may be related to the relevant scarcity of this model in the usual outlets. Rumors that the player was no longer being made don't square with Sony's site which offers you a chance to be notified when next available but who knows what the thinking is here? I also noticed American Theater on A'gon offering the same advise then suddenly having 11 to sell but with 10 already sold.....and that last one is still there....Am interested myself in learning where and when these next become available.

I was fortunate to found a NIB 5400 today on E-Bay. I had listed the model as an E-Bay search and received a notice of a 'Buy it Now' listing. The seller had feedback of 40,000+ with only a handfull of negatives so I'm fairly confident it will be as advertised. I expect it to arrive here Friday.
They are out there...................you just need to keep looking on Audiogon and E-Bay as well as the Sony Style site.
Hopefully Dan's lead with an East coast dealer will pan out with some Sony's as well.

I have a dealer that had 3 units this AM and at least 1 has been sold. I think he may be selling them at $1200 +/- but I can't recall for sure what we paid a few weeks ago for a Sony from Mike.
The unit we bought was 'A' stock in new sealed Sony box.

I just received my Sony 5400. I was indeed a sealed Sony box (NIB) and double boxed for shipping . Shipping via Fed-Ex ground is included in the cost.
I have no affiliation with this seller other than buying this Sony. With a feedback of over 41,000 I thought I'd give it a shot.

So, it seems that they're now discontinued. Yes, you can find a unit here and there, but not from a seller that can actually guarantee a warranty from Sony. Or one that would be willing to replace the unit if it turned out that the unit is actually a counterfeit.
I'm dubious of American Theater. I've had personal experience with them and it won't happen again. :duh: But even they are putting out the last call for alcohol sign.
[sigh] Looks like Sony has killed this thing. That's annoying.

I will likely be posting a source for NIB 5400's from a Sony authorized dealer at $1200. They placed an initial order for 1 unit and want to be sure it is available from Sony before we announce this as a sure thing.
When I hear that it has arrived, I will update this thread.
I wouldn't worry about a Sony being a counterfeit..................

Big corporations have to look at bottom lines. Audiophiles represent a small portion of the consumer market unfortunately.

Thanks for posting this information. Dave is my brother, and when I saw that the 5400s were in demand I bugged him (downright pestered him!) to get some units in.
Just so people know, his AC handle is "Audio Video Synergy" (creative, huh?). He's not nearly as active here as I am, so if anyone wants my help in contacting him feel free to PM me and I'll make sure he gets the word.

Sound Seller is a Sony authorized dealer and is ordering more 5400's. He received 1 unit as a test order from Sony that was bought by one of our ModWright customers.

Another dealer I was in communications with regarding a Sony XA5400ES was United Online Shopping. Dante was very responsive to emails. In fact, literally minutes after I had made my purchase, he contacted me to advise that he had just received a unit from Sony. Just wanted to let you know that it was announced at the Cal Audio Show by a Sony employee in the Blue Coast demo room that the XA5400es will once again be manufactured by Sony based on customer demand. I don't have any other specifics regarding the timing but this was an interesting decision by Sony.
