I've got some MMGs just collecting cobwebs in the basement.
Tell us more about that project, please.

Yes, Peter Gunn built these for the original owner, I bought them over two years ago. The best $ I've spent on audio.

Hmm.. a planar thread with no Acoustats?!?  This will fix that.. http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?vbudg&1225736545

The photo is somewhat dated with the amp and subs having changed, but all else remains pretty much the same.

I spent quite a bit of time in an email tic-tac with him about  three years ago about what it would cost to have that done to my 3.6's including XOs.
Well above my earning potential.......

Good looking speakers, thanks for sharing

These are beautiful looking speaker, very detailed which Italian are known for.
Can you tell us more about these speakers? Are these power hungry as the Soundlab? Does it have the transparency of ESL57, Beveridge, Stax, KLH9 ?
Thks.

Hey Jazzman,
They are actually an Italian designed electrostat called " the Legato". I have had Soundlabs in the past and I like these a lot better. They are Koa wood with marble and I believe they are 1 of only 4 pair made. The builder had to quit for health reasons.
I really enjoyed your article on how you built your speakers. Talk about pride of ownership! This Planer Circle is going to be fun. Regards, Frank

I may have been too harsh on comparing the Soundlabs against the Legato's. I think the Soundlabs are a more complete design and certainly go deeper. The Legatos have that midrange magic we all crave from planer  type speakers and a soundstage that is almost holographic. They do not do deep bass at all. Maybe falling off around 40 hz. That is probably why they do well in my room. I can let my subs handle the bottom end without much interference   from the massive panels.
I know almost nothing about these speakers. Around 12 years ago, I was invited to an amp-fest at an audiophile's house who was using this same speaker. Even though my amps did not sound great on them, the speakers sounded just fantastic with other amps. About 2 months ago, I got word of a pair of these  speakers in storage and couldn't resist. As great as they looked, I probably would have bought them even if they sounded awful. If you remember back to the old Beveridge's and Quads, they have that "ease of presentation" that just gets under your skin. The Legatos are a lot like that, but will play insanely loud. An audiophile/ friend of mine said it best " I can tell right away what they don't do perfect, but I quit thinking about it because none of that matters".
I'm enjoying the Planar Circle way too much, so let's keep the pics coming!

Guess this is the right place to update my present LR system. They may go into my bedroom after my Zu Super Flys arrive  . In the BR I can place them closer to the side walls and, if lucky, interact better with the room than now in the LR - though I have NO qualms as to how they sound now... :singing: (meanwhile I've sorted out my installation, i.e., doesn't look so geeky  :thumb:  oh, and cleaned my camera's lens too )

Someone needs wire management 101. You will be quite surprised as to the sonic benifits of wires not touching each other.

Yo Charles, thanks for the suggestion but thought I was clear that meanwhile it is not so geeky? That shot taken ten minutes after a re-arranging. BTW, the only signal wires you see there [below the shelf] are the leads for the Gryphon Exorcist which is disconnected at the amp when not in use and the open RCAs replaced with Black Forest caps. Exception, the digi IC from Zu to the micromega DUO.Pro dac - all signal cables are routed behind the units and if there is a junction with a power line, then at 90° and with a wad of cotton cloth as physical buffer.
