DVA 850 and Magnepan
« on: 10 Jan 2018, 09:54 pm »
I have a Pass Labs XP20 preamp and a pair of Magnepan 3.7 loudspeakers. Would the DVA 850 be a good match in this system? More generally, does anyone have any experience with DVA 850s and Magnepan 'speakers?

I own the 1.6's and have a friend that has the 3.7's with an AVA 600R amp so I a familiar with the 3.7's.  I also use to own a Pass X1 preamp.  I have heard the DVA 850's at Frank's and think that the mono's would be a great match with the XP20 ( a great preamp ) and the 3.7's.

I have a pair of DVA 850 mono amps that just came back from a reviewer.

They are in new condition and are available at 10% off with new warranty and 30 day satisfaction guarantee.

A friend had the 3.7's and we compared his Krell amp to my Synergy 450, the review was written before the DVA 850 came out but all AVA amps have the same neutral sound.

What AVA Amp Would Be A Good Match To Drive Magnepan 3.7's ?

"...we compared two different amps driving the Magnepan 3.7's: a Krell Full Power Balanced 200 (Class A) and an AVA Synergy 450. The overall sound was very, very close. Based on the differences we heard I think the AVA Fet Valve 600R would be the best choice of all the AVA amps to match up with the 3.7's.

Are you going to run a sub? The Maggies don't go real low. The REL Gibraltar G-2, although pricey, was a perfect match."
