I've had this microRendu for a little over a year, and just recently upgraded it to Version 1.4, with a brand new board with high end master clock. This upgrade was substantial. I have now been able to directly compare both the original 1.3 version and this upgraded 1.4 version to the new Ultrarendu in my system. I'd say the 1.4 version closes at least 75% of the gap between the original microRendu and the UltraRendu. The 1.3 sounded white washed and a bit harsh compared with the Ultra. This 1.4 version brings everything up to the same level of body/warmth as the Ultra, no longer white washed or harsh in comparison. Where the 1.4 falls short of the Ultra is in the very finest of microdetail and decay. They're really very close.
So, I'm just testing the waters. If someone wants this for a decent price, I'll spend the extra like an audiophool to finance the bump up to the Ultra. Someone will get a great deal.
