McIntosh MC240 AMP fuse question
« on: 19 Feb 2017, 06:02 pm »
*Possible stupid question alert*
I was thinking about putting an audiophile type fuse in my vintage McIntosh MC240. The fuse that is currently uses is a 3.2 amp slow blow, unsure of the voltage.
when searching these types of fuses I cannot find 3.2 amp fuses, only 3.15 and 4. Which is safer to use? Will the 3.15 blow too easily and the 4 not soon enough?
Also what voltage would I use 125 or 250?
Or, is the audiophile fuse idea a waste of money?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
John

If the mfg fuse rating is 3.2A slo then only the 3.15A fuse is allowable. The 4A fuse would allow more current to pass which will harm your amp.  A smaller fuse may blow too easily, but it will never allow damage. 0.05A is small difference which can be ignored in this situation.

The voltage of fuses is usually rated at 250V. If the fuse is not marked, then check user manual, or call Mac.
