Retro Guitar Rig
« on: 28 May 2016, 11:16 am »
Finally have the guitar rig setup for a music project.  Going to give a few styles a try with various guitars and effects.  Took a few years to refurbish and rebuild parts the way I wanted them.  Should be a fun recording project.

Peter J,
Yes.  I get plenty of sleep.

This was a 5 year project of getting everything working for that picture.  Some of the gear is 46 years old and needed a lot of work.

The speaker project started 6 years ago.   Finally everything has been available in the last few months to get going.

Thanks,

I rebuilt two of the Laney Supergroup MKI 100 watt heads.  Mainly recapping the power supply, some resistor replacement and a lot of cleaning of sockets and new tubes.  Tried to keep as many of the original Brimar and Mullard tubes as possible.  One was bought rebuilt, but had some tubes that were going bad from shipping.  Still some work to do on that one.

The Laney Super PA was another recap and new tubes.  That has all new production JJ and Shuguang tubes. It goes with the Shure 545 Unidyne III mic.

The 4x12's are Marshall MG412B's loaded with Celestion G12M, G12H, V30's and Goodmans 12-P drivers in different cabinets.

Here are the video's from the rig over the years.

That's some pretty cool stuff you've got there.
What are your impressions of that SG Custom and Brian May?

The Custom was a reproduction of a '61 with modifications.  Love it with the setup for heavy stuff for Tony Iommi's early sound:

The Red Special is also a unique instrument.  Love it for Brian May style sounds:
