+1 Apparently Carl V hasn't had to buy an appliance in recent years. They don't make them like they used to. Only the expensive models seem to be built to a bit higher standard, but then they have all these bells and whistles you don't need, either.

KitchenAid is absolute junk; the more you spend for them the worse they seem to be.  I think GE makes the best appliances and I'll always buy GE in the future. The high end LG appliances I've had have been hit or miss; their washers and dryers seem to be bulletproof. We also had excellent experience with a no frills Hotpoint refrigerator.
