Audiophiles in GA?
« on: 27 Nov 2013, 12:00 pm »
Hello,

I am a new member. I live in the 'burbs of Atlanta. I have a modest setup and would really like to include a turntable sometime in 2014. Of course I enjoy listening to music, but I also play in a band and do some home recording as a hobby.

Any turntable experts in the area?

Hello gnu,

Welcome! I'm up in Canton.
Sorry, I cannot help as I dumped my table and vinyl last century (a hasty decision for sure :duh:).
Anyway, again, welcome to AC.

Hello Dan,

No worries, I am sure there are plenty of resources in this online community to help me get set up. I look forward to the journey.

You can try Audio Alternative, in Lilburn .

They deal with vinyl a lot, or they can point you in the right direction .

Is that the gentleman previously behind Audio Atlanta (Peter ???)

Nice to see a local Tannoy dealer again. Wish someone would get the local KEF franchise away from that deaf buffoon around The Carter Center and his vile mutt.

I think this is the shop in the back of the antique store on the square. I asked the owner if if he took over the Audio Atlanta business and he said he didn't. He does seem to carry a lot of the gear Peter did. I have been a few times to that store, in fact I was there last saturday and felt rushed out of the store. He closed early.

He used to have a vintage Oracle table there for quite a long time. When I asked if it sold he said yes, but then said changed and said that it was a customers that he was holding on to. That thing has been there for years, wonder why the customer would leave it there. Strange.

It was in fact a years earlier visit to the store, before the owner had all the hifi gear, he had the Oracle set up and was playing  a Kenny Burrell record that blew me away. That's the moment I knew I wanted to get a turntable.

Some of my favorite budget speakers I heard were Tannoy Eyeris 2s at Audio Atlanta when he was in business. They sounded so good.

Doug in Athens here.

New to vinyl, so, not much help. I've been struggling through Youtube how to videos etc..

I can highly recommend Benny at Modular Electronics in Alpharetta. He's more of a fix it guy than a set up guy.

There was a shop in Lilburn called Audio Alternative that morphed into HiFi Buys and moved to Buckhead a few years ago.
There was a vinyl guru that worked at AA but doesn't anymore. He was a bit of a character but i can't remember his name. Anyone? Anyway... he would be a great resource for us beginners...  if we can find him.

HiFi Buys is another alternative, but I assumed they would be too expensive if it wasn't a table they sold.
