I posted this on vinyl circle.  The music and the sound is great on this pressing.  I am thinking I should get the CD set also and maybe track down SACDs.  I have read about some digital clipping on one particular CD but I like the MLP sound.  Their recording technique really works for me.  I get immersed in the music. :thumb:

Can you give us a list of the 6 included lp's?  I have a fair collection of Mercury Living Presence and don't want to duplicate. Or are these a compilation of bits taken from several of the more popular MLP records?
With the soaring prices of the Starker recordings and the unobtanium of the Janis Rachmaninoff 2nd concerto, those cuts alone make this a decent deal.  And you're right about the MLP sound... they just got it right back in those distant days of the 50's and 60's.  Robert and Wilma Fine had golden ears when it came to recording and mastering.  Few of their peers of yesterday and even today match their talents.

Thanks, that helps a lot.  I'll have only one repeat, the Balalaikas, and the others are lp's for which I been lusting a long time.  They are ordered and on their way. :thumb:

If you find the SACD set, let us know (I'll do the same).

Just found the CD's on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Mercury-Living-Presence-Boxed-Set/product-reviews/B005XBA9Y8/ref=cm_cr_dp_synop?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending#RIY7LGW4HQ1X8

Is that the set that contains a CD (s) with digital clipping?

I have Hanson's Sym no.2 and Lament for Beowolf on both Mercury regular CD and vinyl.  I much prefer the vinyl playback on my systems.

Yeah,  Cannon shots on 1812 Overture supposedly clip.  Folks on S. Hoffman are sure that digital mastering is at fault.  There is definitely no clipping on vinyl.  I have ordered the CD set anyway.  The music is too good not to.

I ordered it this morning.  I just received a shipping notice stating that it left the warehouse in DE and I will receive it tomorrow.  I like buying from Amazon.   :thumb:

My dear wife gave me the fifty disc cd collection for my birthday and I am enjoying going through the set disc by disc. I have many of the titles on vinyl but wanted to hear all of the recordings without waiting to uncover all the vinyl. I have been very satisfied with the cd copies so far.

Mine arrived today, and much to my surprise is the added bonus of FLAC downloads!  :singing: It will take about 6 hours to get it all.

I think this will be the first box set I buy, as a reference set, and I like this type of music too.

(dang, 51 discs? All audiophile quality? Sign me up)

RClark,
I don't know if the 51 cd set come with downloads. I got the 6 lp set that Woodsyi first mentioned.  However, Father's Day approaches, and I've already mentioned the cd's to my daughter.
