I am considering a DAC upgrade to my home system and would like some advice and information. I currently have a Toshiba HD-DVD player which I use for transport only. My pre-amp processor is an Arcam AVP-700. It provides the DAC function. I also have McIntosh amps and a combination of M&K and Selah audio speakers. I would be happy with an improvement in 2-channel sound while leaving the home theater as is.
What kind of improvement might I hear with an outboard DAC? Has there been much movement in 2-channel DAC technology recently? It seems that surround processing is still moving, but not the actual D/A.
What do you guys think? Anyone compare an Arcam DAC to CI?
