New to the microRendu

I am new to the microRendu and have to say that so far I am loving it.  My digital front end was pretty much unchanged for years, having run Amarra on a Mac Mini through an Uptone Regen to my DAC.  I thought the sound was pretty decent, but still thought it was time to step up and modernize.  I was considering an Aurender and the new NAD 50.2.  A friend had a MicroRendu he wanted to let go, but I didn't know too much about it, so I started to read up on the reviews I could find.

I liked what I read, but I wasn't too sure about using a network component since all of my storage is local.  But, then I realized that all a network really is at the most basic level is a series of components connected by ethernet cable.  So, now I have the most basic of networks running with the microRendu connected directly to my Mac Mini.  The Mini is now set for a bridged network to my WiFi and there it is, sweet and simple.

I did need to upgrade the Mini to OS 10.8.5 in order to run Roon.  That has proved to be the other half of this winning equation.  The sound quality is very good, a great improvement over the Amarra / Mini combo.  The nice thing is that my music can still remain under iTunes and Roon will pick it up and display it just fine.

Great! Better late than never (same for me as I've only had a microRendu for about 4-5 months).

But I don't think it lacks for sound quality, I don't really have a need to upgrade to the latest and greatest ultraRendu, and it is wickedly simple to use with Roon. One of the best "components" I've had the pleasure of purchasing in a while.

Enjoy!
