Joe Jackson at Cullen Performance Hall in downtown Houston - 11 October 15

This was a great show. Joe played a nice mix of old and new songs and surprised me killer covers from Bowie "Scary Monsters",
Lennon "Girl" (Beatles), and Television “See No Evil” (this song is also covered on his new album). The six or seven songs from
his new album "Fast Forward" were all good and I ordered it as soon as I got home. I loved the way the band transitioned to
the stage after a few solo acoustic songs and then faded away by the last song. The acoustics at Cullen Performance Hall were
great and the sound engineer was constantly tweaking it with his iPad from the isles (very cool to watch!). My girlfriend said it
was her favorite show of the year and we saw quite a few together. The Helio Sequence was my favorite, but this was very close.

Joe Ely at McGonigel's Mucky Duck in downtown Houston - 17 October 15

Solo performance (like a lot of the shows at the Mucky Duck) and one of the reasons why I keep coming back. I LOVE this venue. The acoustics are great and there isn't a bad seat in the house. We were about three feet from the stage. He played a few songs off of his new album but surprisingly most of the songs were requests from the crowd. People would say a song when the last one ended, he'd pick at his guitar for a second, tell a story about the song, then play it as if he wrote it that morning. I never saw a show like that. It was pretty awesome to watch.

I've missed posting a few of the live shows I've experienced recently. But, this past weekend I saw Andra Day at Rickshaw Stop, a fairly small venue in SF.

Definitely check out her wonderful retro soulful sound...

To add to the pvs note, the Duck in Houston is a great venue.   I've seen 20-30 shows there.  Tom Russell "borrowed" my beer to toast the audience.

Last Friday, saw Glen Hansard at the State Theater, in Minneapolis (who GOES to Minn in November anyway?)
Brilliant vintage venue, really good show.   Closed with "The Auld Triangle" full band and crew singing unamplified.

Scott Bradley's Post Modern Jukebox at the Cobb Energy Center near Atlanta tonight.

I sat so high up the sound was awful: muddy, bass heavy. However, some of the music was very good, and most of the singers had wonderful voices which kept my interest, but could hold it for only a while. After 1.25 hrs. of poor audio quality and cutesy-kitschy performances, the act kind of wore thin on me so I left before the show ended. I think I would have enjoyed the show much more had they been in my living room.  :)

Peter Case at McGonigel's Mucky Duck in downtown Houston - 17 November 15

Another great solo performance at the Mucky Duck. Julie and I were right in front of the stage and
about an arm's length away from the microphone stand. It was an awesome show!

Went to see Macklemore with my wife January 20th and it was so awesome. He is a great performer live, I was a bit worried before the show. Such a high energy show with breakdancers going crazy on the stage and a positive vibe through out the show. The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is an incredible venue. The service personnel were so friendly and helpful, plus it is just beautiful. I highly recommend checking this place out if you get a chance.

Sorry about the low quality phone pics...

Going to see Springsteen tomorrow night  :thumb: for the umpteenth time in the last 38 or so years, can't wait.  This is the River  tour, same tour that started my Bruce journey.  Great bookends if I never get to see him and the E Street band again.  My favorite Bruce album most of the time, although that does change depending on mood :D.  Sorry for jumping the gun since the show is tomorrow, I'll report back, but he has yet to let me down.

Best,
Ed

I'll see Bruce in April when he comes to OKC.  First saw him in '75 and knew I had seen a very special talent.  I've been listening to his recent shows on XM radio and he is doing the Mitch Ryder set which is fantastic.  That was the encore they were doing in '75.  Hope to hear it again.

Just back from Bruce.  Weird thing happened regarding seating.  My best friend, one of the people I saw my first Springsteen concert (The River) with and most of them since, had tickets through a family member, my sister ordered our tickets separately.  The Yum center Holds over 22k plus general admission on the floor of a couple thousand or so. The punch line is they sat directly behind us, it was a great coincidence.

The concert was outstanding, the band was in great form as was Bruce.  This was one of my favorite Bruce shows, I left wanting for nothing.  That is not unusual, but this show had amazing energy, a great time.  One of the things I love about Bruce is that he talks about his change in perspective over the years, he talks about what a song meant to him when it was written and how time and experience has changed his understanding.  His change in perspective mimics my own in many ways.  I feel grateful to have had someone like Bruce to follow live for nearly 40 years.

For those of you going at a later date, you're in for a treat.

Best,
Ed

Went to see Gary Clark Jr. at the House of Blues Saturday, February 20 2016. Muddy Magnolias opened the show, they were amazing. Make sure to check them out. The show was sold out and the venue was packed. Sorry for the phone pics, but the security at HoB is pretty tight and the crowd was too thick to use a real camera anyway.

Gary Clark Jr. and his band were so good, I could have listened until the sun came up. I recommend seeing them if you get the chance. I haven't seen it, but everyone tells me he played in a recent B.B. King tribute. I've got to track that down and watch it.

Ed,
I tend to play the album all the way through. I sure wish it was recorded better, though that doesn't stop me from playing it or enjoying the songs. I bought "The Ties that Bind" deluxe version with the book and the blu ray of the 1980 Tempe AZ concert. Really looking forward to seeing them.

Billy Gibbons and BFG at Ridgefield Playhouse, a 500 seat venue.  Saw him last year with ZZ Top at Foxwoods Casino and he was playing the best I had seen since they played a free gig in 1975 on the Esplanade in Boston

Tom Tom Club at Fairfield Theatre Warehouse, Frantz and Weymouth live in the town next door so it's a local gig

Tedeschi Trucks Band w/Steve Cropper at the Ryman, Nashville- Great performance.  I missed them due to surgery when we lived in Singapore and they played a gig at Ft Canning Park.

Lucinda Williams and her band Buick Six at College Street Music Hall, New Haven.  We saw her last year at the Country Music Hall of Fame where Rosanne Cash was the artist in residence and Cash  did one night with Emmy Lou Harris and Lucinda Williams.

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, The River Tour, March 24, 2016, Key Arena, Seattle WA. An incredible almost 4 hour show without a break--they never left the stage. Peal Jam's Eddie Vedder joined them to help sing Bobby Jean.
