Supercharged Song Towers and crossover
« on: 29 Nov 2016, 08:49 pm »
Hi,

Just got a new SB13 ultra to go with my home theater after using a piece o' crap subwoofer for the longest time. Some music, some home theater.

Should I cross-over at 80? Lower? SVS's tool suggests 60hz.

For Movies its better to leave at 80Hz to capture the deep bass contained in movie tracks.
For Music I run my towers full range.
YMMV.

I would go with the lower value personally.  The only reason to go with 80Hz would be to relieve the Towers from some bass duty so that they could handle more power.  But the higher the crossover frequency, the more critical the set-up becomes (phase, gain, etc.).  The lower you cross, the more you rely on the full range capabilities of the speaker where all these things where the crossover controls these things perfectly.
