The Overdrive SX supports DLNA networked playback, wired and wireless, using Jriver or Audirvana+.

Roon can be added by any of these five devices:

1) M5 will connect to the Overdrive SX using S/PDIF coax.  Supports up to 24/192 PCM.

2) Sonic Orbiter SE will connect to Synchro-Mesh using toslink.  Synchro-Mesh to Overdrive using S/PDIF coax.  SO supports up to 24/96 via S/PDIF.

Empirical Solution:

I have been told from my firmware supplier that they are looking at doing new firmware for my DLNA module to make it Roon ready next year.  That would be really nice, but I'm not counting on it.

The sound quality from my current DLNA Ethernet renderer in the Overdrive SX DAC and Interchange external renderer will be better than most of these.  I will try to get samples to determine quality.

I am starting a Raspberry Pi design.  May do one that is HAT compatible also.

Regarding Roon and your Ethernet module manufacturer, ABC, this is unfortunate.  I encouraged another manufacturer regarding the importance of ROON and they were able to develop a fix without many hours of investment.  Updating the firmware will be pretty easy process by the end user.  For USB, the firmware is pretty uniform and will likely work on other components.  I wonder if this applies to Ethernet (?).  After seeing the hours of work Steve does to improve the module, I would not wish to 'brick' it either.  So I am hesitant to experiment.

Decided to try a Roon endpoint design.  I can use the same clocking and circuits as my DLNA converter.  It will probably have S/PDIF output and I2S (HDMI) and maybe I2S (Rj-45) output.

If it's a Raspberry Pi "HAT", I might sell it separately for DIYers.  The HAT boards that are available now are not really audiophile quality IMO.
