BDP-2 & BDP-3 difference?
« on: 26 May 2017, 04:32 pm »
Hi!  Can anybody tell me the difference between 2 & 3 models? Bryston removed the BDP-2 specs from site & I can't find one...

Stuff should be here on the old models - http://bryston.com/pages/technical.html

Hi! I suggest you to read the thread of the BDP3 http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=148756.0

Thanks, but there's a manual for BDP-2 and nothing for BDP-3 :(

Thanks, I've searched thru it - it doesn't state the straight answer to my question. Just random posts about as far as I understand that BDP-3 have a faster CPU (faster load times for the unit, not for the audio files) and more RAM (larger libraries support) than BDP-2.
Is there other differences? Does BDP-2 CPU & RAM was insufficient for anyone?

The BDP-3 if you read through the thread is capable of 64 bit SW.  Probably some of the difference is library size capability.  The hardware on the original BDP-2 was probably a few years old.  Here's info on differences between the 1 and 2 - http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=BYBDP2

The hardware will probably enable or help the BDP-3 to handle higher sampling frequencies too.  Bryston indicated it will take a bit to get 64 bit SW into it. So for now, there's probably not going to be tons of differences for most people.  Once the SW is written and the product used with it, it probably will become clearer as to the capabilities vs. the BDP-2

Also, Bdp3 has USB3.0 while Bdp2 only 2.0. Bdp3 plays DSD native also, Bpd2 only Dop.

As BDP3 will be more performing it might be used as roon core - but that's just a rumor, Bryston has not confirmed it yet.

Are you currently using a BDP-2 or -1?

Compared to BDP-1, a BDP-2 with IAD is blazing fast with large library updating. No complaints here, esp as I use only 2-ch PCM. Not into Roon/Tidal streaming, or even DSD yet. My gut feeling is that a BDP-3 will be very similar, sonically.

Did you pick up a BDP-2 as well recently?

Bryston’s BDP-2 flagship digital music player just got a big upgrade.

BDP-3

Higher Horsepower

A blazing Intel processor and 8 gigabytes of RAM makethis model extremely quick when managing even the largest of music libraries. USB 3.0 ports dramaticallyimprove disk performance when using USB 3.0 attached drives. Consider DSD support, the extra USB ports, and gigabit network connectivity plus world renowned Bryston sound quailty and you have a high resolution digital player that will be your source component of choice for years to come.

Separate USB Buses

The BDP-3 features two entirely separate USB buses which makes it possible to connect a USB DAC to a completely separate circuit than USB drives. Now the BDP is compatible with more DACs than ever including those using the Streamlength protocol.

Linear Power Supply

Unlike most competing players, the BDP-3 features a linear power supply which does not radiate high frequency switching noise into sensitive high precision digital audio circuitry.

As we develop more features the BDP-3 will be more capable of handling them.  For example with the BOT now you can rip a CD in 1/2 the time it took with the BDP-2.  You can also send files over the network to an internal or attached drive much faster.

hi James

The back panel of the BDP-3 looks a tad disorganized.

Why couldn't your engineers group together the USB-3 ports, separately from the USB-2 ports? Instead, they are scattered among each other.

I'm nit-picking.

How are you liking it? Still planning to keep the BDP-1?

Thanks, I appreciate it. I like it. Faster and slightly more transparent than BDP-1. But it's very subtle. Not day/night. At the asking price, I could not resist.

There is a little typo on page 13 of the manual:
Quote
power your BDP-1

Must be 3 ofcourse

On page 12 the front of the BDP-3 the number 8 must be 9.
