Wow, chinese transformers in the new B3 amps :(
What about the 7B3, are these also changed from Plitron to chinese?
I have had 4B SST2 for a couple of years now with the Plitron transformer, ultra quiet, no hum whatsoever.
Why the move from Plitron to Chinese BranX?
I see pictures of the 14B3 have Plitron transformers.

Hope my 7B3 that are on the way have the Plitron.
Can someone check before you send it to Norway, if they are changed to Chinese BrandX I sure not want it, then Im keeping the 4B SST2!

Hi

I am checking but I think the only amp we use the Chinese transformers in are the 120 Volt 60 Hz 4B as they are mechanically quieter.

Big thanks James.

On a Sunday! what other company replies that fast on a Sunday!

OK I spoke to engineering and here is the skinny - The 4B and the 3B are the only amps using Eagle Rise transformers in 120 Volt units only.  All 240 volt units use the Plitron.

All other amplifiers use the Plitron.

All our transformers are custom made to our exacting specifications so the one that performs best at the ratings we need wins.

Here is the link to the Eagle Rise company.

By the way Plitron is no longer a Canadian owned company - it was sold about 2 years ago.

I myself feel that Bryston would never jeopardize their stellar reputation by installing shoddy parts in their equipment. These parts are made to exacting specs, so it matters not where they are made.I'm sure they are tested before being sent to the end user and if not up to spec they are rejected. There is a reason Bryston can offer such a long warranty on their products. Just my thoughts.

Like many who live in North America, I prefer buying finished products and parts that are also manufactured in North America.

However, that's not always possible, and I've found that many Chinese and Asian factories that have obtained ISO 9001 certification in Quality Management are producing products of even higher quality and precision than North American factories that don't have as rigorous quality management programs in place.

I wonder if any folks who already bought a Cubed, discover they have brand x transformers, and now are annoyed and want Plitron transformers?

I would think a lot of folks could care less, and trust Bryston to do right by them, but at least some folks would want the Plitron once they find out various transformers are used.

I realize this is a non issue as far as most folks go. But for me, I would certainly prefer a North American part (or even a European part) over a Chinese made part.. in anything I buy.
(Plenty of folks in America have no job since some Chinese person took it. And yes it is true this is a political statement. Canada is not stealing American jobs.. US and Canada have a pretty even trade balance... :^)

Mr. Tanner - Could you please delete the portion of the highlighted section of the above post?  It clearly violates the Forum "Guidelines" -  "What Can't I Post?"

Hi Maxima95

Sorry I can not delete it as I am just the moderator. I can only delete my own posts - which I am tempted to do now and then - LOL.

I guess the biggest concern for some would be at what point does Bryston cease to meet the 51% requirement to maintain it's "Made in Canada" status on specific products.

Who owns them now?

I guess the government listing here wasn't updated which says they are still Canadian:

Who owns them now?

Acal PLC, headquartered in United Kingdom, announced acquisition of Plitron Manufacturing, Inc. on February 12, 2016.

Hi

Plitron was purchased by Acal (a UK holding company), who also owns Noratel - world’s largest toroidal transformer manufacturer.

Have factories all over the world including in China.

My 14B-squared has Plitron. I suspect the squared amps are mostly those.

As long as it sounds great, I don't care where it's made.

Somewhat related...
PurePower return to Canada.

Giving it further thought and seeing Bryston do not manufacturer the transformers, as long as they are up to spec it should not make all that difference as to where they are sourced. Some still may prefer all Canadian or American but those times are long gone....

James Tanner:
Hi,
So in another post I read a new Bryston 4B³ buyer ASKED for and was told he would get the Plitron transformers in his new cubed.

Now I also read some are getting a Chinese transformer..
So can "I" request specifically only the Plitron transformer to be in a new Bryston 4B³? and HOW do I make the request?

Time is not important.. if I have to order it, and wait awhile... no problem.

Ps.. if I wanted to buy Chinese..  Clearly I do NOT.

I never thought that because I ask for Plitron transformers, that it become a subject here.

It was only when I read this post http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=147171.0 that I became aware of Eaglerise transformers being used in 3B3 and 4B3

I received my amplifier last week and checked and I do have Plitron transformers ))) For me , I thought since all other power amplifiers from Bryston are using Plitron, I expected the same in the 4B3. I agree that if any company follows ISO 9001 certification, than quality is high but most companies using Chinese do not list if ISO 9001 or not.

Very nice.

Any reviews forthcoming for the 14B3?
