I plan to build a modest surround sound system for audio only using the VR1s as the mains.

Would I be best served acquiring the VSA TS-150s for the rears or would getting another pair of the VR1s as the rears be the better choice? I know the TS-150s work great for HT but what about an audio only surround sound system?

Could I match the VR 1s with the AR Sierra 1s with the nrt upgrade or 2s? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, but would the TS150 provide better surround sound service than a second pair of the VR1s?

Well if this is for audio only and no movies i would say stick with vr1s. If you are not really sure then i would say go for the ts150s. They are dipole bipole switchable and that could help you. The ts150s are very well made and sound great. I would know as i was a dealer for a while and i had a vr system for a while.
