These are my favorites. Electrovoice Sentry III on the left. Me and my Dad had a room at the AK Fest that year. People still tell me how much they liked these speakers.
What a blast. That's where I met Jim Salk and Frank Van Alstine and Nate Field and Kegger and
Grumpy and Squidward and Tony Ho and...
Don't miss this event, nothing like it. Sorry to get off track.
It occurred to me later that you may have been asking if kick drums give that thump in the chest. To that the answer is no, small single full range drivers don't do that. Don't move enough air, don't go that loud. If the question is one of tone/timbre: they can do that.

I still like these, but don't get to them very often...I'm in awe! I finally got daves' Decware, and now, to look at these is to lust my ASS off! Hope all is well with you, Bill.
this isn't my pair, but my Altec 19's are up in the attic.

Awesome. How do you describe their sonic signature?
What made you chose those drivers rather than other ones?

These are about 95 - 97 db my best guess. I drive them with a 3-watt 2A3 SET integrated.

Latest Omega Super 3XRS with RS5 driver. This speaker has been on the market for around ten years and has only seen driver changes and minor port tuning changes. It started out as the Super 3XRS with Fostex driver, then Super 5XRS with HempCone driver, and now the Super 3XRS again with RS5 OmegaCone driver. All Omega speakers including drivers are made in the U.S.
Any speaker that has been around this long must have a reason for it's longevity on the market. The reason is: its a giant killer. I have been in audio for decades and have never heard a better sounding speaker. One might look at it and say "how can a little 27" tower with a 4.5" driver have you so enthralled?" Here is the list: Huge 3D focused soundstage - deep and wide, gorgeous tonal balance, electrostatic speed, clear and detailed, believable non bloated bass, PRAT in spades, etc., etc., but these overused audiophile terms don't really describe their sound. The fact is, they have no sound - they are portals on reality. They are also happy with virtually any amp type, but my favourite match would be a flea powered SET or SEP tube amp. At 94.5db efficiency these speakers will run on fumes.
I like 'em but wonder how they'd sound standing on end?I built them so the junction between the woofer/mids and the Heil was at ear level with the feet attached. Then I got new chairs :|
Guy, I never get tired of seeing them.
Old thread, I know...but I'm loving my Tekton OB 4.5's with Hframes as bass augmentation.

Since this pic was taken I've moved the Tektons onto stands and have the Hframes on the floor just to the sides. Much better presentation.
Guy,
The speakers are Lowther DX3's over Eminence Alpha 15"s. The Lowthers are powered by 3 watt 2a3 Bottlehead Paramours while the Alphas are driven by a Yung class D plate amp. I use an Ashly active crossover.

2 watts. Oh yeah. :thumb:
I've not heard many speakers suitable for low power, but these little 2-ways are the ones I am listening through now... and I like them very much.

GPA 604-8H-iii with custom crossover and ~290L MLTL cabs, specifically designed for small-moderately sized rooms and high-ish output impedance amplifiers (ie. SETs without negative feedback). Musical and sufficiently dynamic running with ~2 nice Watts.
Cheers,
Ray
You mentioned a cross-over, but I don't see a tweeter, where is it ?I believe it's a coaxial speaker. You see the big cone for the LF, and in the middle is the tweeter for the HF.

If I wanted to play actual music, I guess these would do.
Don't care what they sound like, they look pretty cool.

Hi sebrof.
Sorry to say, but the quality of the picture is not too good, therefore,
I wonder you you can see that it's a coaxial driver.
On the other hand, how can it be otherwise,
since we don't see a tweeter.
Sebrof is correct - it is coaxial. The model of the driver was provided; an interweb search provides the detail. You can see the compression tweeter down the horn in this pic.Hi Ray.

I hope this helps explain.
