Compulsive shopping must be avoided I think.

What constitutes 'compulsive shopping' is an individual judgment, and an individual choice. In other words, their business. I think Black Friday is all about compulsive shopping, actually.

Hey Coop, hope your holiday was great.  I think you're about 90% correct about Black Friday, but many folks do plan a purchase for that day.  My mom's tv blew out a mother board a few weeks ago and the repair was over $300 so I told her I'd help when I got down there for thanksgiving.  We got a nice BF deal online and picked up a Samsung at Best Buy.  Couldn't be easier, in and out in a flash, and a nice lunch at Muscle Makers next door.

I was prepared to 'drop the hammer' on a pair of Beyer Amirons, which were on sale 30% off in the Germany store (where they don't even do the holiday) but not the USA store.
Holiday nice, quiet, & restful, just the way I like it.
