Hi from Canada

So, I have now been in Toronto a bit over two months.  The modern rock radio station here doesn't suck unlike the ones in NYC.   I've been introduced to a few bands, not only Canadian, that I wasn't familiar with and thought I'd share.  Some of you may know them already.

The Sheepdogs  -- remind me of CCR a bit.   Old style rock with a modern flare.  Won all the CASBY awards (kinda like the grammies for Canandian musicians).  Hits include, I don't know,

City and Colour -- Check out the track "Weightless"

Tokyo Police Club -- Has a bunch of free tracks on their site.  10 cover tracks that are pretty interesting.

Sunparlour Players -- reminds me a bit of Wilco with more bluegrass style.  Saw them play live and they are quite amazing I must say.

If you don't know them already, check out Metric, The New Pornographers, The Weakerthans, Broken Social Scene (You Forgot it in People was a particularly good album), and of course, Arcade Fire - who you likely already know.

TNP and BSS are both good and of course I know Arcade Fire (saw them live last year).  Not familiar with Metric or Weakerthans.

SunParlour Players - Creek Don't Rise  (more minimalistic version, good too, electric has some drive)

You are the Hunter (creemore live)

They don't seem to have any clips of their more rockin tunes.  These are great songs but not as up tempo as some of their others.

Hi Josh,

Are you living in the city?  I was in the greater Toronto area earlier this month to visit family.  There are tons of great Canadian bands, including the ones that are already mentioned here.  I have two Toyko Police Club CDs which are really good.  Stars is another excellent band.  Kathleen Edwards and Be Good Tanyas for more americana and alt country.  Metric is fronted by Emily Haines who is also in BSS, along with Feist and Torquil Campbell and Amy Milan (of Stars) when they are not touring with their respective bands.  Are you going to the Toronto audio show (TAVE)?
