Can't activate the backlights on either of my BR2 remote? (used to work)

The backlighting used to work on both of my BR2 remotes--no more. I have the manual, & it seems to say mainly how to disable the backlight--using code 792--altho even that only disables the motion detector (?). Code 797 "toggles" the backlight on & off?--I've tried that also. And yes, I've been using the remotes in a darkened room.

All of the other functions seem to work fine, so I assume the batteries are OK. This is a real drag b/c one of the remotes I'm using in a bedroom at night. TIA for any advice.

It takes quite a bit more battery power to power the backlight than to transmit IR codes.  I've even had a (non-Bryston) remote whose backlight failed to work while still having remote function when the batteries ran low.

I would at least try a fresh set of batteries in one of them.

Yes! Fresh batteries did the trick--thanks. It had occurred to me to try that, but I hadn't realized it needs stronger batteries for the back-light than for the other functions.

Frankly I think the manual for the BR2 could be a bit more thorough, but I'm figuring it out.

thanks again
