"These hand made crossovers were designed to be used with the VMPS Larger Subwoofer, but will work great with any passive subwoofer. Here's how they are set up:

The full range input from the power amplifier is rolled off at 80 Hz/12 dB/Octave (2nd order). The crossover also blocks lows from your main speakers at 80 Hz, but at 6 dB/octave. The massive level control allows you to fine tune the balance of the system by variably attenuating the level of the main speakers. This slightly unconventional setup works amazingly well in practice. I have used them with a pair of Sonus Faber Cremonas and a VMPS Larger subwoofer and the sound was simply glorious.

It is important to understand that your main speakers must be off the same or GREATER sensitivity as your passive subwoofer(s) , which is almost always the case. But if you have extremely low sensitivity main speakers, these may not work for you. If you have any questions about the best way to put these to use, please contact me. I have been building high end subwoofers on a commercial scale since the 1970's (you read that right!) and know how to properly integrate subs into almost any system. The parts Brian used on these were very high quality, and the design, while simple, is ingenious, which will come as no surprise to those of us who knew and loved Brian. The high pass section for the mains uses a high quality film bypass cap, and the 6 dB slope is "phase correct" so the signal passed to the mains from your amp is not degraded. If you want glorious, extended bass, this is the simple but very effective one amp solution."

"I purchased these speakers new from the factory back in the 80's they were just under $800 new way back then and were well worth it. They have 12" wolfers and down facing 12" passive radiators. The wolfers were replaced years ago and now the passive radiators need replaced. They have adjustable crossovers. They have been in the garage for a few years and the roof leaked and caused water stains but I think that could be bleeched out and they could be refinished. Anyway call for more info. Brian"
