Favorite version of Caravan?

Having recently seen Whiplash, I wanted to see if I own that song.  I don't.

I then did a search for Caravan.

Turns out I have 10 versions in my digital library!

Favs so far are in a 3 way tie for totally different interpretations:

  • Art Blakey - 1960
  • Dr John - Duke Elegant - 2000
  • Ben Webster - At the Renaissance - 1960

Do you have a favorite version of this song?

The instrumental versions already mentioned are wonderful and so too are the vocal versions by Inga Swearingen and Lisa Ono.

Agree that the Ray Brown version off that Starbuck's cd is good - great sound quality.

I don't own any versions where there are lyrics, I will have to hunt one of those down!

In addition to the same Ben Webster version above, I have -

Duke's Monkey Jungle version with Charles Mingus and the Lambert, Hendricks and Ross version.

A quick review shows that I don't have an Ella version???  I'm sure I do somewhere.

And I haven't looked on my Nat King Cole set which I'm sure has one also.

I would also add the version on Chester and Lester by Chet Atkins and Les Paul

The more hard core, heavy electric version on Les Paul and Friends could also bear a listen to

Dee Dee Bridgewater has a primo vocal version on Prelude to a Kiss.

Harry Connick, Jr on 25 performs a solo piano version.

Hear Clifford Brown

I forgot to mention Dick Schory's New Percussion Ensemble's version, this thing is a hoot, not your ordinary interpretation.
